Sedona News – The Sedona Police Department Cadets placed in two competition events thus far in 2024!

On January 13 and 14, 2024, the Sedona Police Department (SPD) Cadets travelled to the Chandler Tactical Competition to compete with 51 other teams in events including Narcotics lab raid, high risk vehicle stops, crisis negotiations, terrorist takeover, bike rodeo, pistol shoot, and sniper challenge. There were also several walk-up events, which included wilderness marksman, ax throwing, vertical assault, obstacle course and VIRTA shoot. The Cadet team walked away with first place in the wilderness marksman event.

On March 9, 2024, Cadets attended the Mesa Team Building Challenge. This is different from the Chandler competition as the focus is not on tactical, but working together with a team that is composed of representatives from each Cadet Post. The events allow teamwork for newly formed teams who bring their own set of knowledge and skills to the group and offer an opportunity to learn from peers. The Cadets brought home top three medals in seven of the eight events with their respective teams.

Sedona Police Cadets is a community-based policing program. The SPD educates and involves young men and women in police operations and spark interest in law enforcement.

The Cadets program provides an opportunity for young people to explore a career in law enforcement while gaining experience they can use throughout their lives. The program is helped and funded by donations and fundraisers.

If you know someone who has a good character between the ages of 14 and 20 with an interest in law enforcement who would like to join the SPD Cadet Post, you can reach out to Officer Mike Lucas of the Sedona Police Department via email at mlucas@sedonaaz.gov for further information.
