Sedona News – The Sedona Heritage Museum is excited to announce the availability of new equipment which will vastly expand the ability for researchers to access information. The Museum has acquired and installed a new digital microfilm and microfiche reader.
The new reader, a ScanPro 2500, allows users to view the microfilm and microfiche on a computer screen. No more staring into the void of the old-school readers that made users’ eyes cross! The images can be digitally manipulated in order to make them crystal clear. Users can also scan items they are looking for, download the scans, and take them with them when they’ve completed their research at the Museum.
“This incredible piece of equipment adds a whole new level of accessibility to historical information for researchers and museum personnel alike,” said Nate Meyers, Executive Director of the Sedona Historical Society and Sedona Heritage Museum. “We’re excited to be able to access historical information on microfilm and fiche, and look forward to using this machine to continue the work of digitizing The Red Rock News and uploading it to the Arizona Memory Project in order to make it more widely accessible.”
Researchers can schedule a time to use the microfilm and microfiche reader by contacting the Museum. Users may bring their own microfilm or microfiche to read on the scanner by appointment.
The reader was purchased with funds raised through the Sedona Historical Society’s annual campaign.
