logo_sedonafiredistrict2Sedona AZ (November 15, 2018) – This December the Sedona Fire District with support from IAFF Local 3690, and Sedona-Verde Valley Firefighters Charity will be bringing the Holiday Spirit to the children of Sedona.  In collaboration with the Sedona Chapter Marine Corps Reserves, Sedona Fire will be collecting Toys for Tots. On Saturday, December 15, 2018 from 9:00am- 3:00pm firefighters and staff will be located at Safeway in West Sedona and Clarks Market in the Village of Oak Creek.  Please consider bringing a new and unwrapped toy to donate. The Sedona Toys for Tots organization will be distributing all the toys to local kids and families who can use a little extra holiday cheer this season. There is not gift too small or too large.

Current Sedona Firefighter and Marine veteran, Kevin Ahlers says, “Toys for Tots is an absolutely stellar program put on by the Marine Corps Reserve.  Being a Marine myself, it brings me pleasure knowing that our Sedona Fire District family is actively involved in helping bring joy to kids during the holidays.”

The Sedona Fire District will also be collecting toys from our staff members in the weeks leading up to the toy drive.  We would like to invite our generous community to help make the Holidays special for everyone. If you would like to donate a toy or two earlier than December 15, there are currently toy collection boxes set up at Fire Stations 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6.  Feel free to stop by to meet your local firefighters and fill the box with toys. We thank you and wish you a safe and Happy Holidays.

    By Tommy Acosta
Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
