Festival partners with Village of Oak Creek Association for outdoor films in the Village

Outdoor films are coming to the Village! The Sedona International Film Festival is partnering with Village of Oak Creek Association to present its “Movies on the Move” outdoor film experience on Tuesdays in September.

Join us on Tuesday, Sept. 9 when we present “Singin’ in the Rain” outdoors at the Village of Oak Creek Association Park, next to the clubhouse.

“This is the perfect film for us to launch in the Village because Donald O’Connor — one of the stars of the film — lived his last years here in the Village of Oak Creek,” said festival director Patrick Schweiss. “He was legendary and touched the lives of so many people here in and around Sedona.”

“Singin’ in the Rain” was nominated for two Academy Awards, and boasts an award-winning cast, including Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds, Donald O’Connor and Jean Hagen.

“Singin’ in the Rain” is a spoof of the turmoil that afflicted the movie industry in the late 1920s when movies went from silent to sound. When two silent movie stars’ — Don Lockwood (Gene Kelly) and Lina Lamont (Debbie Reynolds) — latest movie is made into a musical a chorus girl is brought in to dub Lina’s speaking and singing. Don is on top of the world until Lina finds out.

The film is an epic tribute to the lavish Hollywood musicals of yesteryear, and features the iconic music and dance numbers Singing’ in the Rain, Good Morning, Make ‘Em Laugh, You Were Meant for Me and All I Do Is Dream of You, among others.

Bring your lawn chair or blanket and relax in front of a massive outdoor movie screen. Enjoy food and beverage offerings from the festival’s “Movies on the Move” mobile concession stand.

“Singin’ in the Rain” will be shown outdoors at the VOC Association Park (690 Bell Rock Boulevard in the Village of Oak Creek) on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at dusk. Seating will begin at 7 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs. Parking is free and available onsite.

Tickets are only $10 each, and kids 12 and under are free of charge.

For advance tickets and more information, please call 928-282-1177. Visit the film festival office at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A, in West Sedona to get tickets in person. For more information or to order online, visit: www.SedonaFilmFestival.org.

    Beatles Tribute at Blazin’ M

I can honestly say, having grown up in the Bronx in the 60s, that if it had not been for the Beatles I most likely would have grown up to be a criminal or been killed in a violent gang war.
