From Executive Producers LeBron James and Maverick Carter, Danny Lee’s “Who is Stan Smith?” highlights Smith’s tennis accomplishments, but also covers his humanitarian feats off the tennis court: Smith’s relationship with Arthur Ashe heavily inspired his anti-racist activism, while touching upon his relationship with Black player, Mark Mathabane, whom Smith helped escape from apartheid in South Africa.

More than the namesake of one of the world’s most iconic sneakers, Stan Smith has lived a champion’s life on and off the tennis court. Chronicling his rise from collegiate superstar to World No.1 and beyond, Smith blazed new paths for athletes, both as a humanitarian and fashion icon.

Complete with intimate first-person accounts and dynamic archival materials, “Who Is Stan Smith?” is a powerful and inspiring portrait of the man behind the shoe that became a movement.

“Who is Stan Smith?” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher and Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatres May 24-30. Showtimes will be Friday and Saturday, May 24 and 25 at 6:30 p.m.; Monday, May 27 at 7:00 p.m.; Tuesday, May 28 at 4:00 p.m.; and Thursday, May 30 at 3:30 p.m.

Tickets are $12, or $9 for Film Festival members. For tickets and more information, please call 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A, in West Sedona. For more information, visit: www.SedonaFilmFestival.org.

    Whack – A – Mole War

It looks like the tried-and-true method of armed conflict where armies face each other and kill until somebody wins or gives up, now all it takes is assassinating the leadership Israeli style. We enter a new phase of war where the leaders are killed first rather than last as in conventional warfare.
