City of Sedona ArizonaSedona AZ (July 27, 2020) – After taking precautions to ensure the health and safety of city employees and patrons, beginning Monday, July 27, 2020, the Sedona Community Pool will reopen. For two weeks, the pool was closed due to two lifeguards being exposed to someone who had COVID-19. Both lifeguards were tested for COVID-19 and those tests came back negative.

As a reminder, the pool has limited capacity for all programs. As such, programs have specific time slots for use, different than being able to just drop in:

    • Adult Lap Swim is limited to one person per lane, for a total eight users at one time.
    • Aqua Fitness and StarBabies/StarTots classes are limited to 20 participants.
    • Recreation swimming, which for the rest of the summer season will only be offered once a day, is limited to 40 guests.

Participants are encouraged to secure their swim times by reserving a spot online via SportSites by going to www.sedonaaz.gov/pool and clicking on “Available Pool Offerings.” Calling ahead and walking up will only be accepted if there is room after those who used SportSites are given priority.

Additionally, the pool will continue to implement strict safety and hygiene protocols to adhere to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations. Patrons will be reminded of these protocols like wearing masks, pre-screening before entering the facility and keeping physical distance.

The current summer season’s schedule is through August 1, 2020 and details regarding an extended season will be announced next week.

    By Tommy Acosta
Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
