Keep Sedona BeautifulSedona News – Keep Sedona Beautiful (KSB), Northern Arizona Climate Change Alliance (NAZZCA) and the Sustainability Alliance will co-host a CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATE FORUM: ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGES AND SEDONA’S CLIMATE ACTION PLAN on June 21 at 6:00 pm at KSB, 360 Brewer Rd, Sedona.

The City Council Candidate Forum will address the City’s response to the threats of climate change. Sedona adopted its Climate Action Plan (CAP) in July 2021. The Climate Action Plan (CAP) “sets a goal to cut Sedona’s greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030. Reaching this target—which aligns with the international scientific recommendation for preventing the worst climate change impacts—will require involvement and commitment from the entire city. Local government, residents, businesses, and community leaders must work together to bring forth innovative and impactful solutions that work for Sedona” (sedonaaz.gov/)

Forum moderators are Frances Riemer PhD, NAU professor and NAZCCA board member, and Peggy Chaikin, KSB Trustee. The Forum will involve a brief welcome, an opening round of one-minute self-introductions, and candidate responses to Climate-Action oriented questions. Audience members will then have an opportunity to pose questions. The public is invited and there is no charge for admission.  At the time of this release, all six candidates for City Council have confirmed their in-person participation in the Forum.  Campaign literature and voter registration forms will also be available to attendees.

A Mayoral Candidate Forum on Environmental Changes and Sedona’s Climate Action Plan is planned for July.

Voters will also be able to watch the forum and ask questions via ZOOM. Visit nazcca.org or keepsedonabeautiful.org websites for the ZOOM link.

Not sure how spending $100s of thousands of dollars on CAP when we invite 3 to 4 million tourists here a year primarily in cars and tour busses is anything but a feel good program with taxpayer dollars.

Well Michael are we not a state/city that is a tourist attraction? Fueled by tourism?…In the Verde Valley are 3 largest employers are VV hospital, Home Depot, and Walmart. The rest small business people who earn a living off tourism.

All I ever hear you do is complain. Now that money can be argued I guess? I would hope that if we spend that kind of money that KSB would be on board to get those tourist out of their cars and force them into public transportation!

And I will repeat this till the day I die….Whats wrong with fresh air and clean water? What kind of world do we want to leave for our children and grand children?…We can see what doing nothing has done!

@ Michael, you are living in a dream world if you think you can get millions of tourists to give up their cars and take public transportation into Sedona. Perhaps that in itself, would cut down the number of tourists that come to Sedona. Maybe we should disconnect from the grid and have half a dozen wind turbines installed throughout the city…………wouldn’t that be beautiful??? The city could contract with a few restaurants to collect the dead birds at the base of these wind turbines and put them on the menu.

Well Im so sorry your wold is cold ugly and depressing…No problems can be sold and the only way to survive it to complain!

Here is one simple thing……..CLOSE ALL TRAIL HEADS! WOW that was easy….Only permits will be allowed at trail heads……….See how easy that works?…..Guess you havent been to the Grand Canyon or other parks were you cant drive to get around?…

But yes doing nothing solves every problem in the world…..So enjoy your dark ugly world, Im sure you have many friends, and you enjoy complaining about anything and everything!

    What Would I Change?
    By Amaya Gayle Gregory

What would I change if I could? You and I both know I can’t, but it’s a fun exercise anyway. I would have been less of a know-it-all on my spiritual journey. It seems to be a side-effect of the path. Spiritual folks develop an all-knowing buffer to protect against their inevitable surrender to the unknown, but understanding that now didn’t make it gentler on me or those I loved, let alone those that I deemed not capable of getting it 😉 Yeah … I’d have dropped the spiritual snob act. I’d have recognized that spiritual radicals are only different on the outside from radical right Christians, and that the surface doesn’t really matter as much as I thought. We are all doing our couldn’t be otherwise things, playing our perfect roles. I’d have learned to bow down humbly before my fellow man, regardless of whether I agreed with him or not. We’re all in this together and not one of us will get out alive. Read more→
