    SAVCO Annual Christmas Gala

    Sedona News – Thursday December 12th SAVCO held it’s annual Christmas Gala at the Juniper Grille at the Sedona Golf Resort to celebrate 2024 SAVCO achievements and to recognize seven area Non-Profits with small grants. Over sixty-five guests were in attendance.

    Gordie Garvey and Dave Fanning were congratulated for their many years (2018-2024) of planning and conducting the SAVCO Annual Golf Tournament which is held each fall at the Oak Creek Country Club and welcomed Gigi Rock as the Golf coordinator for 2025. Outgoing CO-Vice Presidents Sam Skaggs and Mark Cary were thanked for their two years of service in that capacity and SAVCO welcomed John Martinez as the newly elected Vice President.

    The following Non-Profits were awarded grants for their organizations outstanding contributions to the greater Sedona area:

    • Hope House – $2,000
    • Sedona School Mountain Bike Club – $1,500
    • Project Fill the Need – $2,000
    • Scorpion Boosters – $1,000
    • Verde Valley Sanctuary – $1,500
    • Red Rock Trail Fund – $500
    • Wheel Fun – $1,000

    SAVCO also recognized Kathryn Stillman for her administration skills in organizing the 89 Flags on 89a work parties and was given an Honorary Lifetime membership to SAVCO.

    Mike Vitek was awarded the SAVCO ‘Flag Hoister of the Year’ (2 years running) for answering the call of 12 of 16 Half Staff requirements as issued by the state of Arizona. Outgoing CO-Vice President Sam Skaggs was awarded the ‘MacGyver’ award for his quick thinking and reaction skills in dealing with a flag malfunction that occurred during the 2024 Memorial Day….the malfunction went unnoticed to those in attendance.
