logo_ksbSedona AZ (March 6, 2019) – Join Keep Sedona Beautiful (“KSB”), as part of its Preserving the Wonder™ Speaker Series on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 for a presentation by wild wolf advocate Betsy Klein, founder of Plan B to Save Wolves.  Free to members, residents and visitors – all are welcome to join KSB at 5:30 p.m. at its historic Pushmataha Center on 360 Brewer Road.  The evening will include complimentary appetizers donated by El Rincon Restaurante Mexicano and refreshments provided by KSB.

According to Ms. Klein, “The core of Plan B’s work is the belief that when we save wolves, we save ourselves.  One delves into how this belief is rooted in the science of biodiversity, sharing the compassion and intelligence of wolves and wolf families while also directly demonstrating their powerful impact on the environment …  the question really should be ‘How did man’s best friend become his perceived worst enemy?”

20190306_Kona_PhotobyLarryKaneIn her presentation, Ms. Klein will be using Yellowstone as a backdrop to explore how understanding this on a core level results in a paradigm-shifting awareness leading us to live more compassionate lives both with wildlife and each other.  “As an advocate for wild wolves and a rescuer of wolf dogs, I am often asked the question, ‘why wolves?’ For me, the question has an easy answer. Because wolves are connected to humans in so many ways—culturally, historically, environmentally and more. In fact, our symbiotic relationship with wolves is thought to have begun as early as the Ice Age where the partnership was key to the survival of both species.”

Betsy Klein founded Plan B to Save Wolves in 2016 along with her husband Timon Pratt. Initially leveraging her 25-year background in Marketing and Communications, the genesis of Plan B aimed at helping other nonprofits that specifically supported wolves and wolf dogs with marketing, development/fundraising, and board development. Under her leadership, the foundation has quickly expanded in both scope and reach becoming recognized nationally as an extremely effective grassroots animal advocacy organization.

In its brief history, Plan B has been involved with the rescue of over 250 wolf dogs, provided much-needed funds to over 30 wolf rescue organizations, developed and co-produced Sedona Wolf Week with Apex Protection Project, launched I AM WOLF NATION™, lobbied at the Arizona State Capitol on behalf of a bill to increase penalties for animal abuse and advocated locally, regionally and nationally for numerous other conservation efforts.

As a member of the National Coalition to End Killing Contests, she is currently working alongside other organizations to end killing contests in Arizona. Her latest project is developing and launching The Call of the Wild Mural, an international collaborative public art installation in support of the Endangered Species Act.

Miss Klein is currently a District Leader for the Humane Society of the United States, a member of the AZ Wildlife team and recently lobbied in Washington D.C. as part of Take Action for Animals Conference. She spoke at the 2018 International Wolf Symposium on how to create a new wave of advocates through events like Sedona Wolf Week.

Keep Sedona Beautiful’s monthly Preserving the Wonder™ Speaker Series is typically held the second Wednesday of each month from September through May.  It focuses on presenting a diversity of programs relevant to the unique environment of our region.
