    Oak Creek Canyon Tours by Sedona Heritage Museum

    logo_sedonamuseum2Sedona AZ (February 11, 2015) – The Sedona Heritage Museum will once again present their popular historic sites tours of Oak Creek Canyon’s historic places on April 9, 10, and 11.

    The tours will be narrated by Paul Thompson. Thompson is the grandson of pioneer homesteader Jim Thompson, the Sedona area’s first permanent Anglo settler who came here in 1876, and son of Albert Thompson who wrote many of the stories in the book, “Those Early Days”.

    A comfortable 14‑passenger luxury coach will stop at historic places from Uptown Sedona to upper Oak Creek Canyon and back. In all, Thompson will explain 20-some homesteads, squatters’ sites, campgrounds and other historic locations including stops at Bear Howard’s cabin, Purtymun’s Cave Springs kitchen, and the Thompson springhouse, among others.

    Each tour will depart at 9:00 a.m. and return at approximately noon. Tickets are $50 for Sedona Historical Society/Sedona Heritage Museum members and $55 for non-members. Space is limited. These tours have historically sold-out early. Tickets may be purchased over the phone or in person at the Museum, 928-282‑7038. The Sedona Historical Society operates the Sedona Heritage Museum in Jordan Historical Park at 735 Jordan Rd. in Uptown Sedona.     Chamber Effort to Target
    Affluent Tourists Derailed

    If you make less than $150,000 and thought of visiting Sedona you are not the target of a recently proposed marketing effort by the Sedona Chamber of Commerce, focused on luring visitors that that are affluent. A request by the chamber for the city to release $225,000 from its marketing contingency plan to be used for destination marketing targeting people with money, was torpedoed at the Sedona City Council meeting of January 24. The chamber had hoped to use the contingency funds to bring tourists to Sedona that are well heeled and willing to spend scads of money rather than focusing marketing efforts on “day trippers” who come to the city to hike or spend little more than a day here exploring, off-roading, browsing the UpTown shops and spending little cash while clogging up the roads and making it difficult for locals to get around town.
