Sedona AZ (July 2, 2013) – From YouTube commentary:
This video series shows the Commons Select Committee enquiry into the UK Smart Meter roll-out held on Tuesday 23rd April 2013. Witnesses appearing to give evidence to the Committee in the first session include Dr Elizabeth Evans and Mike Mitcham from Stop Smart Meters! (UK), alongside Dr Jill Meara, representing Public Health England, and Dr John Swanson, from the Biological Effects Policy Advisory Group for the Institute of Engineering and Technology.
The representatives from Stop Smart Meters! (UK) share their concerns about adverse health effects from wireless smart meters due to the pulsed microwave radiation that is emitted 24/7 by these meters, up to 190,000 pulses a day – acute effects (insomnia, headaches, nausea, anxiety and depression, fatigue and memory/concentration problems) and chronic effects (including increased risk of cancer, infertility, dementia, immune system dysfunction, damage to fetuses); environmental damage from wireless smart meters – RF radiation affecting bees, plants, trees, birds etc and the inherent energy-inefficiency of wireless technology: cybersecurity problems – leaving homes and communities vulnerable to hacking of their smart meters; privacy issues – concerning the masses of real-time data on energy usage collected by the utility company which gives a detailed picture of family life inside a home with a smart meter, who will have access to that data, and how that data will be used; and the specter of higher bills resulting from smart meters – as has been the experience in Canada where 80% of Smart Meter users complain of higher bills within a year of installation, often more that 50% higher.

I received this information from Dr. Andrew Goldsworthy, BSc, Ph.D.s an Honorary Lecturer in Biology at Imperial College London in my response to the query about a member of Parliament amending this to make replacing “smart” meters ‘permanent’:
“Yes, you are right, the UK has put off for at least a year the full scale deployment of smart meters, largely because the power companies cannot agree on what method to use to transmit the data. It is more complicated here because several power companies sell their power to even neighboring houses at different tariffs, even though it all comes out of the same cable. Each company wants to use its own meters and this will cause complications if the consumer wants to exercise his right to change supplier.
You are also right in what you say about parliament sneaking an amendment saying that once a smart meter has been installed, it cannot be removed. If this goes ahead, it is likely to be counterproductive since once people discover that they are making a proportion of the population sick, it may become near impossible to sell your house if you have one installed. With any luck, this may discourage people from installing smart meters in the first place.
Also, because the 24/7 radiation from smart meters is likely to have a greater effect on health than making the occasional cell phone call, it will make the general population much more aware of the dangers of microwave telecommunications and do far more damage to the cell phone industry because even cell phone addicts will make fewer calls so that on balance the telecommunications industry could lose money. Smart meters could be “a bridge too far.”
