    Networking for Solutions group meeting again after COVID restrictions are lifted

    MATFORCE: Working Together to Reduce Substance AbuseYavapai County AZ (June 23, 2021) – MATFORCE is partnering with Yavapai County Adult Probation Department and the Yavapai Justice and Mental Health Coalition to bring Networking for Solutions back to Yavapai County.

    After a hiatus from regular, in person meetings due to COVID-19 restrictions, the networking group has reestablished a regular schedule of meetings for the year. Starting Friday, July 9th, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm, Prescott area professionals can meet to learn more about the impact of developmental adversity (trauma, chaos, neglect) on adult behavior and capacity to change. Beth Dunn, MS, LPC, will explore the “3 R’s” (regulate, relationship, & reason) and how to manage them to lessen recidivism. A time to share resources and events will be included at the end of the presentation. Attendees are encouraged to bring resources to share.

    logo_yavapaijusticeandmentalhealthBeya Thayer, Executive Director of the Yavapai Justice and Mental Health Coalition, expressed her motivation for bringing this important resource back to our county. “Networking for Solutions has been happening for a long time in our community. I’m excited to be a part of bringing it back because we know from experience that working together creates positive change in our communities.”

    The July 9th meeting will be held at Prescott Police Department’s Training Room located at 222 South Marina Street in Prescott. With additional meetings at this location scheduled for Friday, October 8th, January 14th, and April 8th from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm.

    Meetings have also been established for the Verde area and will be located at Yavapai County Adult Probation starting Friday, July 16th, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. Beth Dunn will repeat her presentation on the impact of developmental adversity (trauma, chaos, neglect) on adult behavior and capacity to change at this meeting. A time to share resources and events will be included at the end of the presentation. And attendees are encouraged to bring resources to share.

    The July 16th meeting will be held at Yavapai County Adult Probation Department’s meeting room located at 411 South 14th Street in Cottonwood. With additional meetings at this location scheduled for Friday, October 15th, January 21st, and April 15th from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm.

    The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
