The Sedona Heritage Museum is fascinating. It has events and exhibits every day of the week from 11 to 3 PM. Local residents and visitors from around the world come to learn about the history of this territory and the courage and ability of the early settlers to make it their home.
Skip it didn’t take much courage for them to take over indigenous lands. It was made easy by the US Cavalry primarily under General CROOK for them to move into rich fertile lands that didn’t belong to them. Just stating the facts.
Jill your point is spot on. However, the museum is still a fun place to visit and learn some of the old school methods of doing things that may become a necessity in our near future thanks to political and environmental ignorance. It’s like a mini version of Hitler sympathizer, Henry Ford’s Greenfield Village in the state of Michigan. History and historical facts are crucial to our future no matter how much MAGA desires to erase them. I’m all for the heritage museum, just wish there was more education and acknowledgement from them on whose lands Sedona “settler’s” took over as you have stated. The story of Indian Gardens being an abandoned lush indigenous garden a man just happen to stumble upon as the story goes fails to tell how those lands became allegedly “ “abandoned” when as you stated, Gen. Crook came through the area and rounded up “Indigenous Agitator’s” who refused to be force off of their lands voluntarily. The history of that period is fascinating and completely relevant to Sedona today. We still have a long long way to go in learning from our own past but we will never do so if we white wash and erase the embarrassing parts as MAGA is currently doing in our National Parks, Museums, at the Pentagon and elsewhere.
