Yavapai County News – MATFORCE, a primary prevention organization with a focus on stopping youth drug use before it starts, continues the MATFORCE Messages virtual learning series with newly scheduled presentations. This virtual learning series covers a range of topics presented by subject matter experts with a focus on building healthier communities. Presentations are held virtually on Thursdays from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.

August’s presentation, “Trauma 101,” presented by Kimberly Gregory, focuses on the science of the brain and the brain’s response to trauma, specifically childhood trauma.

Participants will learn about the parts of the brain and their functions, and how environment and adverse circumstances can negatively affect children. They will also learn of the brain’s resiliency and how healthy coping skills and social and emotional connectedness encourage healing from trauma.

This class is scheduled for Thursday, August 22, 2024, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.

This eye-opening session will explore the short-term effects and long-lasting health consequences of inhaling volatile substances, from brain damage to organ failure.

Learn about the psychological and social impacts on individuals and communities, and gain insights into effective prevention and intervention strategies.

This class is scheduled for Thursday, September 26, 2024, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
