Local Questers Join Palatki Questers in Grant Quest
Sedona, AZ (May 17, 2011) – The Palatki Questers and Sedona Questers chapters recently partnered to get an Arizona Questers grant for building preservation work at the Sedona Heritage Museum. In addition to the “Preservation & Restoration” grant from the state organization, the two local chapters contributed matching funds.
Specifically, the grant and other funds went toward the installation of historically accurate gutters on the Jordan Fruit Packing Shed and re-siding portions of the historic Jordan Tractor Shed. The gutters will protect the foundation and siding for the future and the replacement siding will protect the Jordan orchard tractors and other artifacts that are still inside the tractor shed.
Both chapters have been raising money for this project for almost two years. Palatki held a series of special event fund-raisers and Sedona hosted a tea in celebration of Sedona Schnebly’s birthday. With those funds raised, Palatki member Dianne Hedquist and Sedona member Janeen Trevillyan wrote the grant to the state. Hedquist says, “Both local Questers chapters have been long-time supporters of the Museum and several Questers also volunteer there. We are very happy that the state grant committee agreed with our position that the Jordan buildings at the Museum are historically significant and were worthy and in need of the improvements this project included.”
The Museum buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places, requiring careful consideration anytime materials are repaired or replaced. They are in Jordan Historical Park and owned by the City of Sedona.
The International, Arizona and local Questers organizations are a non-profit organization that works to educate their members and the public about antiques, to encourage the preservation, restoration and conservation of historic buildings, sites and antiquities, and to support and fund historic preservation projects. There are four Questers chapters in the Verde Valley. For more information on local Questers clubs, call Dianne at 928-284-3482.
