logo_ycsoPrescott AZ (November 27, 2019) – Although ‘No Shave November’ is the traditional month for charity fundraising campaigns, Sheriff Mascher has authorized additional months to benefit several charities.

No Shave October – The YCSO No Shave campaign began in October and the chosen beneficiary was the US Vets facility in Prescott. . This wonderful organization is a private non-profit providing housing, employment and counseling services to our nation’s veterans – the men and women from all branches of the armed forces who have served their country from World War II to current conflicts underway. The Prescott facility serves over 150 veterans each year. Monies were gratefully accepted by Matthew Phillips, US Vets Development & Communication Manager in Prescott.

Sheriff Mascher – “Many of our vets have made the ultimate sacrifice and we should remember to honor all vets who return home from military service. It is because of their selfless service that we have secured the liberties and freedoms afforded to all of us. The least we can do, especially during the holiday season, is to raise money to provide services for those vets less fortunate and even homeless. With the anticipated weather issues in Yavapai County, this service will be needed more than ever. I am privileged, along with participating employees from the Sheriff’s Office, to give $2730 dollars to US Vets that was donated during the month of October.”

No Shave November – participating employees were able to raise $2485 for the non-profit Granite Mountain 4-H Club.

As shared by 4-H – Since 4‑H began, more than 100 years ago, it has become the nation’s largest youth development organization. The 4‑H idea is simple: help young people and their families gain the skills needed to be proactive forces in their communities and develop ideas for a more innovative economy. In Yavapai County, with our Western heritage, the Yavapai County 4-H Horse Committee strives to provide equine-based opportunities for diverse youth from across our communities.  The members, aged 8 – 19, engage their circles of influence vibrantly in many ways.

The Committee encourages and furthers the 4-H Slogan, Learn by Doing.  As our culture becomes more fast-paced, and skills of the past disappear, we feel our youth both crave and require opportunities to serve others and become well-rounded, responsible and productive members of society. Toward those ends, the Committee provides for the County’s 4-H Horse Clubs, comprised of youth members from the communities of the quad-city area, Mayer, Poland Junction and the communities of the Verde Valley.

Each year, the Committee provides a horse show, open to all Horse Club members from across Yavapai County.  This event serves as the only opportunity for members to qualify for State-level competition.   The Committee will use these dollars to directly benefit our youth, their service projects, youth awards and recognition.  Horse Committee members are volunteers, ensuring none of your donated funds are used for overhead or administrative costs.

YCSO is proud to maintain this yearly tradition to raise monies for local charity groups who bring invaluable services to our community. The No Shave campaign continues into December with target funds going to the Sheriff’s Employee fund. This fund is set up to help employees when a critical financial need arises due to a death in the family, illness, or other unanticipated catastrophic situation.

In Honor of Bob Dylan’s Birthday

    By Tommy Acosta

On May 24 poet Bob Dylan celebrates his 84th birthday and is still performing live today. For those of us Baby Bloomers we remember him well as his songs were the catalyst to the awakening of a generation to the great injustices in our society and the profits made by those who peddle war, hate and disease. His music inspired so many songwriters and performers of that era including the Beatles and so many others, as well as myself. In honor of his contributions to the world I wrote and recorded song for his birthday, a tribute to his beautiful poetry and an assessment of where we stand in the world today.
