logo_leagueofwomenvotersSedona AZ (January 27, 2017) – What is the role of government? Is government good or bad? Why has there been a campaign for decades to delegitimize government and convince people that government is bad and should be limited as much as possible? Does government improve peoples’ lives? The League of Women Voters Greater Verde Valley, during this Year of Civic Engagement, is launching a bi-monthly series, “Philosophy and Politics,” addressing political issues from a philosophical point of view.

photo_andreahouchard3The first topic, “The Goodness of Government – A Justification for the State” will be presented by Andrea Houchard, Ph.D., on Thursday, February 2, 6:00-7:30PM at Sedona Public Library 3250 White Bear Rd, Sedona. Dr. Houchard is the Director of NAU’s Alliance Bank Business Outreach Center, AHRRC division. Previously she founded and directed NAU’s nationally-recognized Philosophy in the Public Interest program. She is co-owner of SPEX: Sedona Philosophy Experience, an Arizona Benefit Corporation that combines philosophical exploration with tours of Sedona and the Grand Canyon. Andrea serves on the Board of Trustees of SOPHIA (Society of Philosophers in America), the Board of the League of Women Voters Greater Verde Valley, and has served on the Board of Directors of the Sedona International Film Festival.

We die. Everything we experience is but a dream between those two points. Or are we manifestations of a Divine Creator, every one of us complete in the image that we were made? So, we are told.
