City of Sedona ArizonaSedona AZ (July 17, 2018) – The public is invited to attend a Sedona City Council Work session on Wednesday, July 25 at 3:00 p.m. in the Sedona City Council Chambers for discussion regarding the update of the city’s Land Development Code (LDC). The council chambers are located in the City Hall complex at 102 Roadrunner Dr.

The LDC establishes standards for all new development and redevelopment and is one of the city’s most important tools for protecting and enhancing the unique character of Sedona.  In 2016, the city initiated a comprehensive rewrite of several major sections of the code to provide clear and specific direction for development and redevelopment. Over the past 18 months, staff worked closely with the Planning and Zoning Commission and the City’s consulting team to provide a draft document that will accomplish the goals established at the outset of the project to:

    • Be user-friendly and easy to understand.
    • Provide clear and specific direction for development and re-development.
    • Implement the Sedona Community Plan.
    • Address the goals in adopted Community Focus Area (CFA) Plans.
    • Reflect best practices.

On June 19, the Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended City Council approval of the draft LDC.

“After many months of work on the document, we are very pleased with the resulting draft Code”, says Senior Planner Mike Raber.  “We are excited to see the draft LDC now moving forward for discussion and consideration by the City Council”.

At the July 25 meeting, the draft LDC will be introduced to the City Council, with an opportunity to also discuss future work sessions and the public hearing process.  The Council will ultimately consider adoption of the updated LDC.

Visit the city’s LDC webpage at www.SedonaLDCupdate.com to learn about the LDC and the update process. The draft LDC update and the accompanying draft zoning map is available for public review on the LDC webpage.  For questions and comments please visit the webpage or contact Senior Planner Mike Raber at 928-204-7106 or mraber@sedonaaz.gov.

    If I Were Curtis Sliwa
    By Tommy Acosta

One of my guilty little pleasures is imagining what I would do if I was in someone else’s shoes, especially politicians. In this essay I would love to jump into the shoes of Curtis Sliwa, a former New York City vigilante who founded the Guardian Angels and is now running as a Republican for mayor of his city.
