    KSB calls for Annual Award nominations

    logo_ksbSedona AZ (October 20, 2015) – Keep Sedona Beautiful is inviting individuals, businesses and local organizations in the Verde Valley to submit nominations for its annual achievement awards.

    For the past 43 years, the mission of KSB has been to protect and sustain the unique scenic beauty and natural environment of the Greater Sedona Area.  Each year, KSB honors individuals, businesses and organizations that have made outstanding efforts that help our community achieve these goals.  In addition to the Greater Sedona area, recent awards have included other Verde Valley communities that have made exemplary achievements in sustainability and the environment.

    Categories for these awards include: Community Service, Environmental Sustainability, Exemplary Building and Architecture, Landscaping, Signage, Land Preservation and Conservation, and Outdoor Lighting that helps to preserve our dark skies.

    The deadline for nominations is Thursday, November 12.   Residents and organizations should send nominations in writing to KSB, 360 Brewer Road, Sedona AZ 86336, or E-mail info@KeepSedonaBeautiful.org.  Provide name, addresses, and contact information with a description of why you believe this nominee should be honored.  Winners will be honored at a special KSB Awards of Excellence Celebration luncheon on Saturday, February 13, 2016.

    Analyzing City’s Legal Right to
    Ban OHVs on Public Roads

    Mea Culpa! Mea Culpa! Mea Maxima Culpa! I screwed up. Blew it. Totally made a fool of myself. Missed the boat. I am talking about my editorial on the OHV fight, No Legal Traction on OHVs. I assumed that it was ADOT that would make a decision on whether the city could legally ban off road vehicles from our public roads like S.R. 89A and S.R. 179. Man was I off. ADOT has nothing to do with allowing or disallowing the city to do so. ADOT’s response to me when I asked them to clarify their position, was curt and to the point. “ADOT designs, builds and maintains the state highway system,” I was told. “It is not our place to offer an opinion on how state law might apply in this matter.” It was a totally “duh” moment for me when I realized that that the decision or judgement on the OHV ordinance, would involve the state and not ADOT. Chagrinned I stand. The crux of the matter then is whether the city can effectively use a number of standing state laws that can be interpreted to determine whether the city can legally ban the vehicles or not.
