    A Community Conversation

logo_sedonakindSedona AZ (November 9, 2018) – To close out Sedona Kindness Week, SedonaKind and the Rotary Club of Sedona are presenting an engaging and uplifting program on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, November 17th, at the Sedona Public Library from 2-4 pm. The session is free, and everyone is welcome.

The elections are over. The busy holiday season is about to go into full swing. In this brief window of time, we’d like everyone to join us in learning and talking about kindness. Can simple acts of kindness really change a person’s life or change the world? Local resident, Paul Friedman, a retired professor of communication, will present an intriguing program exploring those questions and more. He will summarize recent research on the most important “channels” through which people can make significant differences in other peoples’ lives. He will explain how every moment that we interact with each other gives us an opportunity for profound kindness, with our eyes, our words, our hands and our hearts.

Moreover, he will describe how the most meaningful acts of kindness to others bring a wealth of benefits to the kindness giver. “When kindness is present, it doesn’t make such sense to distinguish between the giver and the receiver. All are blessed by the interaction,” says Friedman.

The presentation will be followed by small group interactions to explore how kindness has appeared and possibly changed people’s lives. The participants will discuss what motivates them to show acts of kindness, and what might prevent them, as well. Finally, each group will share their “AHA” moments of kindness.

“SedonaKind and the Rotary Club of Sedona are both committed to spreading kindness in our community and in our schools. This program is a perfect partnership. “Kindness is like a boomerang. It always comes back to you,” said Rotary president, Holli Ploog.

“The Sedona Public Library has long been considered the community heart of Sedona, so it makes perfect sense to host this community conversation there,” said SedonaKind member, Jawn McKinley.

After this event, it will be only five days until Thanksgiving. These two hours spent together exploring how kindness truly benefits everyone it touches is the best ‘side dish’ you can serve. We hope you all join us for a very special event.

    The Bloody Machine
    By Tommy Acosta
What is a life anyway? A single “life?” Is it nothing more than a collection of emotions and thoughts, reverberating pain and pleasure, hopes, dreams and fear? Are we merely meat; flesh and blood creations encapsulating what we believe is a soul? Or is a single life the microcosm and macrocosm of human life on earth, each one of us a unique representation of who we believe we are and the whole of humanity at once? We are born. We grow old. We die. Everything we experience is but a dream between those two points. Or are we manifestations of a Divine Creator, every one of us complete in the image that we were made? So, we are told.
