Keep Sedona Beautiful will hold its next Preserving the Wonder™ Speaker Series event on Wednesday, November 19 at 5:00 pm. This month’s speaker is Ken Zoll, Executive Director Emeritus of the Verde Valley Archaeology Center and Museum in Camp Verde. His topic will be “The Crane Petroglyph Heritage Site and V Bar V Historic Ranch.” The event is free, open to the public and will be held at KSB’s EcoHub, 360 Brewer Road, Sedona.  Carpooling is appreciated and strongly recommended. Please visit the KSB website, www.keepsedonabeautiful.org for details.

In his talk, Ken Zoll will discuss findings from his 2024 book written with Peter Pilles Jr., retired archaeologist for the Coconino National Forest, that describes the prehistoric and historic aspects of the Crane Petroglyph Heritage Site and V Bar V historic ranch, including the owners of the ranch such as one who was murdered in a love affair, another who was a German Baron, and a third who unsuccessfully ran for Governor and Senator of Arizona. Ken will show some of the public rock art on the property, as well as some at inaccessible locations. Lastly, he will discuss the solar calendar that he discovered at the site.

Ken Zoll is the Executive Director Emeritus of the Verde Valley Archaeology Center and Museum in Camp Verde. Ken Retired to Sedona with his wife Nancy in 2004, after 35 years of Federal service in Chicago and Washington, D.C. He holds B.S. and M.B.A degrees from Loyola University of Chicago. Ken’s primary area of study has been in ancient astronomy. His book, Sinagua Sunwatchers describes his two-year study of the solar calendar at the Crane Heritage Site. Heart of the Sky describes all fifteen of his astronomical discoveries in the Sedona and Verde Valley area. His other popular books include Understanding the Rock Art of Sedona, and H. H. Nininger, Master of Meteorites. All proceeds from the sale of his books go to the Verde Valley Archaeology Center for cultural resource preservation projects.

    Compassion Has no Party

Whether you are Republican or Democrat, liberal or conservative, one truth remains: the vast majority of people on this planet are, at their core, decent. They believe in fairness, in dignity, and in the simple idea that other human beings matter.
