The JCSVV offers soul-enriching services and classes, all listed on the synagogue website, jcsvv.org. Visitors are welcome to attend services after a security check. Those who cannot attend in person can access the service through zoom.

Erev Shabbat services begin at 5:30 pm on Friday, November 8, led by Rabbi Alicia Magal. A reading from Lech Lecha (Genesis 12:1 – 17:27) which tells of Abraham’s adventure in establishing a faith in One God as he leaves his home city of Haran, in Mesopotamia in the nineteenth century BCE and travels to Canaan. God makes the promise to Abraham that this land will become the home of his descendants. Healing blessings give people an opportunity to pray for those who are ill, and Kaddish offers mourners the opportunity to say the Mourners’ Prayer supported by community. We all pray for the return of the hostages and a path to peace. A festive Oneg of refreshments sponsored by Bob and Carol Dores in honor of their anniversary.

Torah study, led by Rabbi Magal, will be held on Thursday, November 14 at 4:00 pm on zoom to read and discuss Vayeira (Genesis 18:1 – 22:24) with the tale of Abraham welcoming three strangers/angels/messengers to his tent. They announce that Sarah will bear a child, and that Sodom and Gomorrah will be destroyed. Abraham bargains with God not to destroy the evil cities of Sodom and Gomorrah if just a few decent people can be found there… but alas, they are wicked and the cities are destroyed, except for Abraham’s nephew Lot and his family.

    Whack – A – Mole War

It looks like the tried-and-true method of armed conflict where armies face each other and kill until somebody wins or gives up, now all it takes is assassinating the leadership Israeli style. We enter a new phase of war where the leaders are killed first rather than last as in conventional warfare.
