Sedona AZ (November 2, 2015) – If you’ve ever watched an improv show live or on televison, you may wonder how the players manage to create scenes, and mini-plays completely made-up in the moment, right before your eyes.  It’s not as hard as you think.  Improvisational theater skills can be learned.  Shaeri Richards (a long time Sedona improv artist, currently performing with Zenprov ) with assistance from fellow troupe member Linda Roemer, will be facilitating a class called the Improv Tool Kit (Round II) to teach you how it’s done.  The first class was so much fun, half the class is returning to do it again.

This four hour workshop will teach a variety of improvisational theatre skills including,  (1) Lose the Critic, (2) Yes And, (3) Who, What and Where, (4) Staying Present, (5) Give and Take, and much more.

Ms. Richards says, “Improv is a lot like life. When you stay in the moment, listen to your partner and simply respond to what’s happening in front of you, interesting scenarios are created.  In happens both in life and on stage.

Perfect for beginners or as a refresher course for the more advanced player, the workshop is scheduled for Sunday afternoon November 15th from 1 PM to 5PM at the Sedona Posse Grounds Hub, (525-B Posse Grounds Rd. – formerly the Teen Center) Ms. Richards says the  class will provide a solid foundation for anyone wanting to try their hand at improv.  Tuition is $35.00 if you register on or before November 9th, $45 after. Class size is limited to 16 participants and pre-registration is required.

Once you’ve got the basics, there’s plenty of opportunity to practice your skills.  Every other Wednesday at the same location, improv players of all skill levels are invited to participate in “Anything Goes,” an open improv event that’s full of laughter and whole lot of fun.  You can also e-mail Ms. Richards for details.

The Sad Lesson of Tyre Nichols
    By Tommy Acosta
Having grown up in the mean streets of the Bronx there is one lesson we learn early on, and that’s don’t mess with the cops when they got you down, and outnumbered. The beating of Tyre Nichols at the hands of the police preceding his death at the hospital could have been avoided if only he had the sense to not resist them. People fail to understand that on the streets, cops are basically “God.” You can’t fight them. If it takes one, two, five, ten or twenty officers they will eventually put you down and hurt you if they have to in the process of detaining or arresting you. In the Bronx we would fight amongst ourselves but when the cops came it was “Yes, officer. No, officer,” and do our best to look as innocent as possible. People need to understand that cops on the street represent the full power of the state and government. Read more→
