Hamas must be held accountable — not only for the atrocities it committed two years ago on October 7, but for the destruction of their country and its people as well. True, their leadership has been decimated, but whatever remnants remain must be neutralized and held accountable.
Over-and-over again, it boggles the mind how stupid and cowardly that attack was. For six hours, unopposed, they killed, raped, tortured and kidnapped innocent people — and then managed to vanish, leaving behind a trail of unspeakable brutality. What the hell could they have been thinking? They didn’t realize that by that murderous act they opened the door to their annihilation and the demolition of Gaza.
It is gone. Gaza has been leveled and now faces the bulldozers. Tens of thousands of Palestinians are dead. And for what? One cowardly, inhuman act. Did Hamas honestly believe they could defeat Israel (one of the most lethal and powerful militaries in the world) armed with AK-47s, a few pitiful rockets, and a hang glider? It defies imagination. What drove them to commit such atrocities? Didn’t they understand they would be crushed when Israel retaliated?
They brought the destruction of their homeland upon their own people. Now, decimated and desperate, the population suffers the greatest price. Families are broken, hospitals strained beyond capacity, infrastructure destroyed, and a civilian population left to cope with unimaginable loss.
That does not absolve anyone of responsibility for the vast humanitarian catastrophe. Civilians — whether Israeli or Palestinian — must not be forgotten. Humanitarian corridors must be secured. International law and basic human rights demand it. Accountability should fall first and foremost on those who planned and executed the atrocities, while the international community must ensure aid, protection, and a clear plan to rebuild lives and infrastructure.
Depending on where one stands politically — whether calling for a free Palestine or condemning the existence of Israel — the October 7 attack was a strategic miscalculation of the deepest order. Hamas could not win. Neither could Iran or any other state actor in the region overturn the balance of force by such a reckless operation. The only real victims are the people who have lost everything.
If Palestine — whatever survives of it — hopes for a future in which ordinary people can live safely and prosper, the first step is to eject the forces that bring them ruin. That will be messy and painful, but it must be followed by serious international engagement to stabilize the region, restore basic services, and create conditions for accountable, representative governance.
The last card Hamas holds — the remaining hostages — has been turned. Beyond that, the world must not abandon Gaza’s civilians to vengeance or neglect. Justice for the victims, credible accountability for perpetrators, and a large-scale humanitarian and reconstruction effort are not mutually exclusive. They are both necessary.
We can debate the political endgame all we want, but we cannot pretend that the October 7 atrocity did anything but guarantee catastrophe for Gaza’s people. The urgent question now is how to stop the bleeding — protect civilians, to deliver aid, and to begin the long work of rebuilding on a foundation of law and dignity.
If we want peace to have any chance, the violence must end, perpetrators must answer for their crimes, and a pathway must be laid for rebuilding lives — not just rubble. Only then can we hope for a future in which political grievances are settled by politics and law, not by mass murder and revenge.

Well written as usual. My only aside is that you state-
Depending on where one stands politically — whether calling for a free Palestine or condemning the existence of Israel
One can be both Pro Palestinian and Pro Israeli while also being Anti Hamas, Anti Genocide and Anti Israeli Government. That’s called humanity and decency while calling out the criminals of both sides without blaming innocent civilians for the crimes against humanity committed by the criminals calling the shots on both sides.
The shooting war may have ended. We shall see what we shall see. But the war to win hearts and minds is far from over.
Without the leadership of President Trump, hostages would not have been returned, and Iran would still be sending Millions of dollars and weapons to Hamas.
If we look at October 7th as a single horrible event, which it was, and ignore the history that everytime we “settled” for some “peace” with Hamas, it failed, repeating that patter AGAIN after decades was a non starter.
Remember, the STATED GOAL FROM HAMAS IS THE DESTRUCTION AND ELIMINATION OF THE ISRAELI STATE. Hamas leadership repeated that statement after October 7th, while holding hostages.
And let’s not forget that many Palestinians danced in the streets post October 7th.
But of course the motivation for October 7th was encouragement from the other “Death to Israel, and the big Satan, Death to America” continuously spouted by Iran, who started funding Hamas again, with money and weapons. And you can thank Joe Biden’s puppeteers for lifting the sanctions so Iran could flow oil money into their coffers, and subsequently to Hamas, Hezbola and the Houthis.
Iran was broke in 2019. Trump made sure of it.
Well….They’re broke agin.
The ONLY thing that most of the Middle East understands is strength. As Reagan once said, “we win, you lose.” They lost, and must never be allowed to come back to power. Their hate is not manageable.
What possibly is more concerning is the Jewish hate in this country. Unacceptable.
Without Trump and every other POTUS who aided Netanyahu’s obliteration of Gaza there would be no need for a ceasefire. Israel would have had to take out the Hama killers the old fashioned Mossad way- One killer at a time rather than an entire city block, hospital or refugee camp at a time! Instead we had a Convicted War Criminal leading the genocide of innocent Palestinian civilians aided by decades of Uncle Sam’s Army surplus sales and gifts meant to bolster Israel self DEFENSE not OFFENSE.
Trump got up in front of the world today to whine about not getting a Nobel (because he’s a Convicted Felon, Insurrectionist who strips his own citizens of human and civil rights), lies about his tariffs and even about how he loathes some of the world leaders in the room with him. No sane POTUS with peace truly in their hearts would chest thump himself at such a crucial moment in Middle East history, which BTW is far from decided! Anything can happen and likely will Murphy’s law says so!
Congratulations Trump on having other people talk to others and secure the release of the 20 hostages released. Now how about releasing that Epstein file? Enough with the diversions! M’erica wants to see those files!
If America truly wants Peace in the Middle East they will withdraw their forces and colonizing corporations completely out of the region. Nobody wants hostile foreign forces in or near their sovereign countries. Not the US, not Russia and anyone else. Trump may have managed to have some hostages released but he is also responsible for supporting Netanyahu and his government’s years long protracted genocide of the Palestinian people. Many Palestinians may have cheered Nov 7th, just as most Germans cheered for Hitler, Italians for Mussolini and now they cheer Trump. wWhat’s your point? That there are brainwashed simpletons in every walk of life? Because there most certainly is. That’s what happens when Politicians lie until the lies become truth at least in the minds of their weakest minded followers.
Nobody won anything you stooge! Israeli’s and Palestinians lost and lost Bigly! Nobody ever truly wins a war except those that do so for ego, Nobel’s and Resort contracts with billions!
The war in Gaza was fueled by hate. It was financed by hateful clerics in Iran. Hate caused Hamas to subject its own people to horrible destruction. Hate destroys logic. It is time we stopped hate in America. Trump haters accomplish nothing. Working together to make America better is the only solution. Stop the hate speech and look for common ground to make America better.
Who do you think funded the annihilation of Gaza and all things Palestinian? Sure wasn’t Iran. Besides I thought King Wanker “obliterated” Irans war fighting capability?
Defending Trump for his Crimes does NOTHING! Speaking out brings attention to his crimes. You choose to praise a criminal and his crimes, good on you mate! Normal people didn’t drink his Kool Aid of lies and crimes.Trump and MAGA HATE-Migrants, Gays, Democrats, Minorities, Liberals, Anti Fascism and other people while telling others to stop calling their hatred out by calling the truth hate! What your country needs is not a false orange idol but rather someone who believes in and adheres to the rule of law and common decency.
Calling Haters good and truth Hate is quite the contradiction of common sense.
Yes stop calling for the hateful elimination of migrants, gays, journalists, judges, late night talk show hosts and everyone else MAGA hates. Do that and we’re halfway there!
You know what would be absolutely amazing? If we had a President and Congress grow a pair and ban assault weapons as well as making background checks mandatory for all firearm sales. That would even be Nobel prize worthy!
But there’s no money to be made off it so it’ll never happen. Not so long as politicians are beholden to gun manufacturers and their dark money donations.

Trump haters? You mean people who don’t want fascism and Authoritarianism in this country? Sure seems to anyone with functioning eyes, ears and a few brain cells can see exactly who is doing the hating while whining and crying about being called the haters they are! It’s tragically funny, like the KKK calling blacks haters for calling Klansmen racist or haters. Does not compute Will Robinson, warning warning danger danger!

JB, we are both old enough to remember the GOPs dog whistle political speak! That whole time they said no, thats not what it ment. Yet here we are, no more dog whistles just a blowtorch of lies and hate for fellow Americans.
See we were right all along! It was pretty damn obvious during the Obama years, now its all they have.
Power to the richest, and corporations. the rest be damned. Amazing how racism is so strong it makes a person vote against their own best self interests!

WS Dave I hear you! Problem is they just refuse to admit their racial, gender and religious animus towards those they have very clearly declared their enemies. They hide behind distortions of their bibles while living contrary to the word of Christ. They scapegoat and blame those for doing the hardest jobs for the least pay for having “stolen” jobs they’d never do in the first place. They persecute others at the behest of their Grand Poo Ba without questioning the veracity of his claims while absolving his Royal Heinousness of any and all crimes despite being presented stacks of evidence and thousands of hours of testimony and video. It’s like watching an old Abbot and Costello movie with the old timey hypnotist putting everyone into a trance with a wave of his hand. They keep repeating how King Nothing is doing exactly what he was elected to do without saying the obvious- to strip minorities, women, gays and people who are against fascist of their rights while continuing to profit off of their labor. But how? They refuse to say because they know they’re wrong for even thinking about supporting fascism in a country that fought, bled and died fighting it and did so shoulder to shoulder with people from all walks of life, (black, brown, Asian, Gay, Male, Female, Muslim, Christian and Jew). And yet their support of our first convicted felon sex offender POTUS is unshakable no matter the damage to our democracy and our reputation combatting not abetting tyranny except in the cases of the dozens of GOP led CIA coups and illegal arms deals with countries like Afghanistan, Salvador, Iran, Iraq, Panama, Argentina, Bolivia and many despotic regimes around the world.
