    Grasshopper Youth Basketball Registration

    City of Sedona ArizonaSedona AZ (October 12, 2019) – Grasshopper basketball registration opens Oct. 21. Grasshopper basketball league is for youth in grades 1-6. This is a low-pressure co-ed league with an emphasis placed on skills development, good sportsmanship, positive encouragement and teaching the rules and fundamentals of basketball. Whether you are a player, coach or parent, we offer a fun and fulfilling season for all.  

    Registration runs Oct. 21 through Nov. 7.

    The registration fee is $35 per player.  A $3 discount is offered for additional siblings. To register, visit SedonaAZ.Gov/Parks or the Sedona Parks and Recreation office located at 525 Posse Ground Rd. Office hours are Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

    Sedona Gift Shop

    Practices and games are held at the West Sedona School Gymnasium. Practices begin the week of Nov. 25 and will be conducted 1-2 times per week. Practice days and times will be scheduled Monday- Thursday between 3 and 7 p.m. and last no longer than one hour.  Games are played on Saturdays and will run Jan. 4 through March 14. 

    The Parks and Recreation Department is seeking volunteer coaches for the season.  No experience needed, just time and willingness to help.  Coaching tools and resources are provided.  Coaches are essential for a successful season; if teams do not have a coach, some prospective players may not be able to participate.     The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
