Camp Verde, AZ — Make your summer bright and colorful with Camp Verde Community Library! The theme for the 2025 Summer Reading Program is Color Your World, and staff at the library have put together 6 weeks of activities designed to encourage summer reading and help children keep learning in a fun environment through hands-on, informal STEM activities that promote creativity, problem-solving, and discovery.

Registration begins Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at 8:30am in the Children’s Library, and the program itself will run from Wednesday, June 4th – Saturday, July 12, 2025.  Here’s how the program works: Parents sign up their child/children and each child gets a packet that contains calendars for all of our exciting June and July events, as well as stickers, coloring sheets, and more to help make your summer as bright and colorful as it can be. Track your child’s reading on the enclosed log and come in with the completed log to receive a prize (supplies are limited and available on a first come, first served basis). The program will end with an ice cream social on July 12th, so stop by to beat the heat.

Children ages 0-11 are invited to participate in age-appropriate weekly activities starting June 4. These include engineering activities, art lessons, and Storytimes. To see all of these and more, please visit our events calendar at www.campverde.az.gov/cvcl or stop by beginning on June 4th to register and receive a paper calendar

Summer reading isn’t only for kids though. Teens ages 11 through 17 are invited to participate in fun summer events like disc golf, engineering challenges, and of course, our regular Game Nite!

Disc Golf Basics – Begins Monday, June 09 @ 8:00am. Teens learn the basics of how to play disc golf. Join Zack at Rezzonico Family Park to learn the basics of the game. Each week we will add a new skill, including putting, driving, stance, grips, and more, playing mini-games throughout.

Engineering Challenge – Begins Tuesday, June 10 @10:00am. Teens will get the opportunity to engineer structures like towers, buildings, and bridges using unconventional building materials like uncooked spaghetti and marshmallows. Each week will have a specific challenge to overcome, with a little friendly competition.

Game Nite – Thursdays from 4:00p – 7:00p Teens can play games and have a slice of pizza. Each week of the month has a different theme, rotating through tabletop wargames, trading card games, board games, video games, and wildcard on 5th weeks.

Camp Verde Community Library is located just off Montezuma Castle Highway at 130 N Black Bridge Road in Camp Verde. The library is open Mon-Thu 8:00a-7:00p and Fri-Sat 9:00a-5:00p. For more information about this or any other library program, visit the library’s website at www.campverde.az.gov/cvcl or call 554-8380.

    Beatles Tribute at Blazin’ M

    By Tommy Acosta

I can honestly say, having grown up in the Bronx in the 60s, that if it had not been for the Beatles I most likely would have grown up to be a criminal or been killed in a violent gang war.
