Sedona News – The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “Everest” and “To the Arctic” showing June 15-20 at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre. The two award-winning films will show in one package.

    EVEREST

Narrated by internationally acclaimed actor Liam Neeson, “Everest” is the story of the world’s tallest mountain and one of the greatest human adventures ever filmed for IMAX and giant screen theatres.

A dramatic, true account of dizzying achievement, “Everest” follows the expedition of four climbers on their journey to the summit of Everest, just days after the infamous 1996 tragedy in which eight climbers lost their lives in a deadly storm, a story chronicled in Jon Krakauer’s best-selling book “Into Thin Air”.

Featuring the first-ever IMAX images brought back from the mountain’s summit, “Everest” is also the fascinating story of how this iconic mountain was formed, how high altitude challenges a climber’s mental and physical capabilities and how Sherpa culture and tradition permeates the Everest experience. Above all else, “Everest” is a story of triumph over adversity and of the true power and resilience of the human spirit.

    TO THE ARCTIC

An extraordinary journey to the top of the world, the documentary adventure “To the Arctic” tells the ultimate tale of survival.  Narrated by Oscar-winner Meryl Streep, the film takes audiences on a never-before-experienced journey into the lives of a mother polar bear and her twin seven-month-old cubs as they navigate the changing Arctic wilderness they call home.

Captivating, adventurous and intimate footage brings moviegoers up close and personal with this family’s struggle to survive in a frigid environment of melting ice, immense glaciers, spectacular waterfalls, and majestic snow-bound peaks.

The musical score is by Steve Wood, with songs by Paul McCartney.

“Everest” and “To the Arctic” will show together at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre June 15-20. Showtimes will be Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Thursday, June 15, 16, 17 and 20 at 4:00 p.m.; and Tuesday and Wednesday, June 18 and 19 at 7:00 p.m.

Tickets are $12, or $9 for Film Festival members. For tickets and more information, please call 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A, in West Sedona. For more information, visit: www.SedonaFilmFestival.org.
