Sedona News – As part of an effort to provide more consolidated parking in Uptown, the city of Sedona’s contractor Fann Contracting will begin excavation of the Uptown Parking Garage on Monday, Aug. 19, 2024. Excavation operations include a combination of heavy digging, drilling, blasting, slope stabilization and the export of the removed material.

Work will occur Monday through Thursday, from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This work will require the closure of the public parking area on Forest Road north of the Fire District, and routine closure of a small portion along Forest Road in front of the Parking Garage site to all vehicular traffic. Please be aware of construction equipment, lane restrictions, reduced speeds and rough road conditions. Crews will work with residents to maintain access throughout construction operations.

    Blasting specifics

Crews anticipate blasting operations to begin the week of August 26, 2024, and are expected to occur on a weekly basis until the winter of 2024. Grand Canyon Shooters will be performing the blasting operations for this project, with monitoring performed by Arizona Monitoring Services. If you live within 500 feet of a planned blasting area, you should have completed a pre-blast survey with Arizona Monitoring Services. If you do not live in this area, no action is required. The Sedona Fire District will issue blasting permits for this project during the scheduled blasting window. Both the Fire District and Police Department have been notified and are involved as this project progresses. A Fire Marshal will be present when blasting operations occur. Blasting will cause dust within the blasting site but water spraying dust mitigation techniques will be deployed. Residents within 500 feet of blasting areas may notice more dust than usual, but it will diminish, enough to not affect air quality for a prolonged length of time.

    Additional information

City Council approved the construction contract for the Uptown Sedona Parking Garage on May 14, 2024. The project consists of constructing a three-level garage for approximately 270 vehicles, with one level below grade.

Please note, Fann Contracting is only performing the excavation portion of the project. McCarthy Building Companies will construct the parking structure which is set to begin in winter 2024, and expected to be completed by the end of 2025. Follow-up notifications will be released prior to this work commencing.

As a child of the ’60s, I grew up hating war—protesting and demonstrating against them, uncovering as a writer the global military-industrial complex, and seeking peace with my pen. Through the years, I saw myself as a herald—someone who could help people, through my writings, liberate themselves from programmed ignorance and institutionalized stupidity. Well, now that I am in the third act of my life, my understanding of how the world works has changed.
