Sedona News – The Sedona Police Department received $18,857.13 of federal funding through the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (AZ GOHS) to support the implementation of an automated traffic reporting and forms program known as Traffic and Criminal Software (TraCS).

This software is an electronic citation and collision program that officers will use to scan driver’s licenses and vehicle registration forms instead of handwriting the information. Because of this, it will streamline the ticket writing and reporting process for officers and office staff.

Through this grant, the Sedona Police Department will also purchase essential mobile scanners, printers and vehicle mounting solutions for all patrol vehicles. In turn, the equipment and software will directly upload traffic accident statistics to the Arizona Department of Transportation’s state-wide traffic accident tracking and reporting program.

The Sedona Police Department is committed to continually improving processes and is grateful to the AZ GOHS for their continued support and partnership.

    Affluent Tourists Derailed

A request by the chamber for the city to release $225,000 from its marketing contingency plan to be used for destination marketing targeting people with money, was torpedoed at the Sedona City Council meeting of January 24. The chamber had hoped to use the contingency funds to bring tourists to Sedona that are well heeled and willing to spend scads of money rather than focusing marketing efforts on “day trippers” who come to the city to hike or spend little more than a day here exploring, off-roading, browsing the UpTown shops and spending little cash while clogging up the roads and making it difficult for locals to get around town.
