SEDONA, Ariz. – The city of Sedona’s Sustainability Department, in collaboration with the city’s Tourism Program and U.S. Forest Service, launched a comprehensive heat safety messaging campaign from June through September 2025 to inform both residents and visitors about the risks of outdoor recreational activities during the hot summer months in the Sedona area.
Educational messages include tips on preparedness, safety precautions, information on wildfires and monsoons, “Ready, Set, Go!” protocols, and emergency text alerts.
The messages were distributed via:
- The city of Sedona official visitor destination website ScenicSedona.com and social media platforms to reach travelers before they arrive and also when they are in town.
- Flyers, rack cards and standing banners displayed at both the Uptown Visitor Center and Red Rock Ranger District Visitor Center, and eight businesses across ten locations including three large hotels, three ATV/Jeep tour companies and two property management companies to educate visitors as they prepare for outdoor recreation activities.
- An educational video produced by the city about heat safety that plays on the Sedona Shuttle Trailhead Routes.
- A-frames placed at dozens of Sedona trailheads.
Extreme heat has been and continues to be a leading cause of negative weather-related health impacts, and Sedona is no exception. As Sedona continues to see more days above 95 degrees, the severity of these health impacts will increase.
Addressing climate impacts and risks and sustainable tourism outreach are initiatives included in Sedona’s Climate Action Plan (CAP).
