SEDONA, Ariz. – The city of Sedona welcomes the community to attend a ribbon cutting for the newly completed Uptown View Walk. The event will take place on Monday, Jan. 26, starting at 11 a.m. in the Pink Jeep Plaza, located at 204 N. SR-89A.
The Uptown View Walk is on the east side of SR-89A between L’Auberge Ln. and Forest Rd. along the new 10 foot-wide concrete shared-use path.
The Uptown View Walk includes 10 interpretive panels, nine of which share stories about Sedona’s history, and one that identifies visible rock formations and shares information about how they were formed. The panels were curated by the Sedona Heritage Museum.
In addition, there are three family-friendly panels which identify animal tracks stamped in the concrete shared-use path and provide information about native animals such as coyotes, javelinas, bobcats, white tail deer, great horned owls and bald eagles.
The northern end of the Uptown View Walk is anchored by the monumental life-size sculpture “The Call of the Canyon” by local sculptor James Muir. “The Call of the Canyon” is inspired by the Zane Grey novel and motion picture of the same name, and speaks to Sedona’s literary, cinematic and artistic history.
The Uptown View Walk was accomplished through a partnership between the city of Sedona, Sedona Heritage Museum and the local business community. This project furthers the city’s goal for safe pedestrian connectivity and to be a community animated by the arts.
