The internationally acclaimed string quartet will perform masterworks by Schubert and Beethoven alongside a compelling contemporary piece.

SEDONA, Ariz. – Chamber Music Sedona is pleased to present the Brentano Quartet in concert on Sunday, March 22, 2026 at 3 p.m. at the Sedona Hilton (90 Ridge Trail Drive, Sedona, Arizona 86351). Considered one of the world’s most revered string ensembles, the Brentano Quartet will offer an inspiring program that bridges classical masterworks with inventive contemporary music.

    The program will include:

    • Franz Schubert: “String Quartet in A minor, D. 804”
    • Timo Andres: “Machine, Learning”
    • Ludwig van Beethoven: “String Quartet in C Major, Op. 59, No. 3”

Described by The New Yorker as “fiercely intelligent and expressively pristine,” the Brentano Quartet – which consists of violinists Mark Steinberg and Serena Canin, violist Misha Amory and cellist Nina Lee – has been a defining force in chamber music for more than three decades. Known for its probing interpretations, thoughtfully curated programs and a sound of remarkable depth and refinement, the ensemble has performed across five continents at the world’s most prestigious venues and festivals, earning both critical acclaim and devoted audiences.

Formed in 1992, the Brentano Quartet’s deep commitment to education and artistic leadership includes long-standing residencies at Princeton University and the Yale School of Music, where they currently serve as Artists-in-Residence. They also lead the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival and regularly appear at the Taos School of Music.

The March 22 program at Chamber Music Sedona reflects the Quartet’s signature blend of tradition and innovation. Schubert’s emotionally charged “A minor Quartet” and Beethoven’s radiant “Op. 59, No. 3” — one of the composer’s groundbreaking “Razumovsky” quartets — frame “Machine, Learning” by composer Timo Andres, a work that brings a contemporary perspective to the enduring string quartet form.

Throughout their distinguished career, the Brentano Quartet has collaborated with some of today’s most celebrated artists, including Jessye Norman, Joyce DiDonato, Mitsuko Uchida and Jonathan Biss. Their extensive discography includes Beethoven’s “Op. 131,” famously featured in the film “A Late Quartet,” as well as acclaimed recordings of Mozart, Haydn and contemporary repertoire. The ensemble is named after Antonie Brentano, widely believed to be Beethoven’s “Immortal Beloved,” underscoring their enduring connection to the heart of the quartet tradition.
