The GRAMMY®-winning quintet and acclaimed pianist Michelle Cann will join forces to celebrate chamber music’s global spirit.
SEDONA, Ariz. – Chamber Music Sedona is pleased to welcome Imani Winds and Michelle Cann to the stage for the next concert of its 43rd season, taking place on Sunday, January 11, 2026 at 3 p.m. at the Sedona Performing Arts Center (995 Upper Red Rock Loop Rd., Sedona, Arizona 86336). This extraordinary collaboration between the trailblazing, 2024 GRAMMY®-winning wind quintet and the celebrated pianist Michelle Cann will feature a vibrant program that journeys from France to North and South America — blending classical tradition, jazz influence and contemporary innovation. A winter salon featuring Michelle Cann in recital will precede the concert on Friday, Jan. 9.
The program will include:
- Paquito D’Rivera: “A Little Cuban Waltz”
- Francis Poulenc: “Trio for Oboe, Bassoon, and Piano”
- Valerie Coleman: “Portraits of Langston”
- Francis Poulenc: “Sextet for Piano and Winds”
Recognized for reshaping the landscape of classical music through dynamic artistry and genre-defying collaborations, Imani Winds has captivated audiences worldwide for over 25 years. The ensemble — consisting of Brandon Patrick George (flute), Toyin Spellman-Diaz (oboe), Kevin Newton (horn), Mark Dover (clarinet) and Monica Ellis (bassoon) — earned a 2024 GRAMMY Award in the Classical Compendium category for Jeff Scott’s “Passion for Bach and Coltrane,” released on their record label, Imani Winds Media. Their adventurous programming, which has taken them from Carnegie Hall to international stages, reflects a mission to celebrate cultural diversity and tell stories that resonate across generations.
Joining Imani Winds is Michelle Cann, hailed by Gramophone as “a pianist of sterling artistry.” A 2025 GRAMMY Award winner and recipient of the Sphinx Medal of Excellence, Cann has appeared as soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, among many others. Renowned as a leading interpreter of the music of Florence Price, Cann brings profound depth and expressivity to every performance – making her collaboration with Imani Winds one of the season’s most anticipated musical events.
As a prelude to the mainstage concert, Chamber Music Sedona will host a winter salon featuring Michelle Cann in recital on Jan. 9 in the intimate setting of a private Sedona home. This exclusive evening will offer audiences a rare opportunity to experience Cann’s artistry up close, in a warm atmosphere that blends world-class performance with engaging conversation. Space is limited, so attendees are encouraged to reserve their tickets early.
