Verde Valley News – Camp Verde Community Library invites the community to join us in celebrating the artistry and spirit of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) at a special reception on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. This event will showcase the entries from our annual coloring contest and recognize the winners across various categories.
Dia de los Muertos is a beloved tradition in Mexico and many Latin American countries, where families come together to honor and celebrate the lives of loved ones who have passed. This vibrant celebration transforms mourning into joy, emphasizing the connection between the living and the deceased. The “Ofrenda,” an altar adorned with offerings, plays a significant role in this cultural observance, and in 2008, UNESCO recognized it as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
“The Latino community is a significant and vibrant part of Camp Verde and the Verde Valley,” said Ms. Letty, the library’s bilingual outreach specialist. “Celebrating diverse cultures strengthens our community and enriches our collective experience.”
We encourage families and individuals of all ages to attend this festive event, enjoy refreshments, and participate in honoring the creativity of our local artists. Details about the coloring contest can be found on the Camp Verde Community Library’s website.
