All are invited to Erev shabbat service on Friday, January 2 at the regular time of 5:30 pm. Note: This month the later service will be on January 16 for Social Action Shabbat which will begin at 7:00 pm. Join in singing songs to usher in the Sabbath, prayers of healing for loved ones, congratulations for those celebrating a birthday or anniversary, and Kaddish, the Mourner’s prayer in memory of those who have passed away recently or around this date in past years. The weekly Torah portion is Vayechi (Genesis 47:28-50:25) telling of the end of Jacob’s life. He and all his family have settled in Egypt close to Joseph. Before his death, Jacob calls Joseph and all the brothers to gather for his final blessing. Kiddush and Motzi (blessings over the wine/juice and challah) and socializing follow the service.
Egalitarian, participatory Morning Minyan meets on zoom every Wednesday at 8:30 am with traditional morning blessings, healing prayers, and Kaddish, the mourner’s prayer. Come be counted in our minyan! Link on the website.
Meditation class, led by Rosalie Malter and Rabbi Magal, will meet on Wednesday, January 7 at 4:00 pm on zoom. Focus includes sacred text, holiday themes, and other gateways to meditation.
Torah study group will meet on Thursday, January 8, at 4:00 pm on zoom led by Rabbi Magal. The Torah portion is Shemot (Exodus 1:1 – 6:1) telling of the experiences of the Israelites four centuries after arriving in Egypt in the time of Joseph. The Egyptian Pharaoh enslaves them with harsh labor. Moses is born and hidden because of the cruel decree to drown all Israelite baby boys. Pharaoh’s daughter finds the baby and brings up Moses in the palace. As a young man, Moses kills an Egyptian taskmaster who was beating a Hebrew slave. Moses flees to Midian and becomes a simple shepherd. The story will continue to unfold. An overview of later books of the Hebrew Bible and Jewish literature will also be discussed. 0
The Social Action Committee is collecting non-perishable foods, as well as infant formula and feminine hygiene products, for the local Sedona food pantry. Please drop off your donations in the bin provided for collections located at the bottom of the stairs in the parking lot.
We wish all our members, guests, and neighbors a sense of wholeness and peace, included in the word Shalom.
