No APS Power Line Maintenance for 30 Years

logo USFS USDAFlagstaff, AZ (July 20, 2011) – Arizona Public Service will be conducting inspections on the 69 KV transmission power line from Sedona High School through the Village of Oak Creek starting Aug. 1.

The Forest Service is giving APS permission to access the line off the main paved road and along their right of way from the Red Rock Loop Road to Verde Valley School Road. This will include locations on the southern portion of Old Post Trail (south of junction with Herkenham and Baldwin Trail south of the trailhead.

APS staff will evaluate each power pole and its connections by climbing each pole or using bucket trucks. APS will work with the Forest Service staff to choose appropriate access points. Upon completion of inspection and repair work, APS will close access points by naturalizing and raking out vehicle tracks. Vegetation clearing activities will also be done this summer along this corridor and may aid in “naturalizing” any impacts of the vehicles.

This power line serves approximately 731 customers on the north end and 1481 customers on the south end. This line was constructed in the early 1980’s and has not been maintained due to its difficult access.

For any questions about this activity, please contact Coconino National Forest Lands staff, Judy Adams at 928-203-7506, or Beth Dykstra at 928-527-3419.
