    Apply now for the Sedona Police Department Community Police Academy

    Sedona News – The city invites residents to apply for the 2024 Sedona Police Department Community Police Academy, a free program designed to experience firsthand engagement with the Sedona Police Department, have a better understanding of the department’s role within the community and foster a collaborative relationship with residents.

    The eight-week program will be held every Tuesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. starting on Oct. 8, 2024. It is for residents of Sedona and members of the business community and helps create open communication between the department’s community members and the Sedona Police Department staff. The police personnel’s direct interaction with community members will help them better understand what they value and gain perspective of community goals.

    The course curriculum includes:

    Sedona Gift Shop

    1. Patrol procedures
    2. Crime scene investigations (fingerprinting and DNA collection)
    3. Traffic control and regulation (DUI, motorcycle detail and collision)
    4. Firearms
    5. Use of force
    6. Reporting and investigating
    7. Specialty assignments: K-9, Narcotics Detective, School Resource Officer, motor officers, Community Service Officers and Community Service Aids
    8. Volunteers
    9. Cadet Program
    10. Police communication (dispatch)

    Applications must be received by Sept. 22, 2024. Seats are limited to 15 individuals. Most classes will be held at The Hub, located at 525-B Posse Grounds Rd. The first class will be held at the city of Sedona Vultee Conference Room located at 102 Roadrunner Dr.

    Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Any incomplete and/or unsigned applications will not be considered for participation. An application can be obtained at www.sedonaaz.gov/policeacademy, at the Sedona Police Department front desk or by emailing Sgt. Brandon Bergstad at bbergstad@sedonaaz.gov.
