Old Town Center for the ArtsSedona AZ (November 29, 2012) – World renowned guitarist Anthony Mazzella returns to Old Town with a special CD Release event at Old Town Center for the Arts on Saturday, December 8th at 7:30 pm.

Following four previous sellouts at OTCA Anthony returns to dazzle and astound concertgoers with his deft defying abilities on acoustic and electric guitars. The technical proficiency required to execute his fingerstyle guitar technique is nothing short of amazing.

For this concert Mazzella will feature music from his new CD “Ritual” a collection of 11 songs composed by Anthony. The music is a fusion of Spanish Guitar and Near Eastern music, inspired by his travels through these regions, performing with musicians indigenous to these areas.  “Ritual” is 3 years in the making and was produced by Anthony, who composed all the music, arranged all the songs, played all the instruments (with several guest appearances), recorded the album, edited and mixed it in his home studios both in New York City and Sedona, Arizona.

Anthony Mazzella is one of the most virtuosic and passionate guitar players in the world today. As a young boy, his grandfather exposed him to the Spanish guitar style of master guitarists Andre Segovia, Carlos Montoya, Vincente Gomez, Pepe Romero and Julian Bream.  He became inspired and began learning the rudiments of music on piano.  When he started playing the guitar, the synergy between the two instruments became innate.  Anthony’s keyboard skills appear in the form of string and horn arrangements on many of the songs on “Ritual”.

Anthony began his performance career as a concert guitarist, landing a headlining spot at one of the most prestigious venues in NYC, the BLUE NOTE.  Since then, he has appeared on stages all over the world as a solo artist and as guitarist for world music master Omar Faruk Tekbilek.  He has opened for headlining artists, James Brown, Tower of Power, The Commodores, and Spyro Gyra. His original music is composed with a fusion of world influences consisting of acoustic and electric finger-style, rock, jazz, classical, flamenco, funk, R&B, Celtic, ambient, medieval & middle-eastern.

On Saturday, December 8th at OTCA you’ll hear Anthony’s original music, a preview of his new CD “Ritual”, and you’ll hear popular tunes from some of your favorite artists, played in a style that is like no other. In Anthony’s words, “the concept of naming the new CD “Ritual” is to draw attention to the events that happen naturally, on a daily basis, which connect us to the flow of the universe.  Thus the beautiful cover art being the sun and moon reflected in the water. The practice of making music is ritual to the musician.  The rising of the sun and moon is ritual to the earth.  The life experience of the spiritually conscious being is connected to source, god, and nature.  The ritual, the ceremony and the art helps the spiritual one and the musician transport the layman, the seeker and the listener into the soul experience of life. Overall, “Ritual” can best be described as world music for the ears of the western hemisphere.”

Come hear this gifted musician present for the first time, new music from “Ritual.” Tickets for Anthony Mazzella in Concert are $15 in advance and $18 at the door, and $20 priority seating in the first 3 rows.  Tickets are available online at www.showtix4u.com.  Tickets are also available in Cottonwood at: Jerona Java Café, and Desert Dancer; and in Sedona at Crystal Magic.  Old Town Center for the Arts is located at 5th Street & Main in Old Town Cottonwood.  For further information visit www.oldtowncenter.org or call Elena Bullard 928-634-0940.

The Sad Lesson of Tyre Nichols
    By Tommy Acosta
Having grown up in the mean streets of the Bronx there is one lesson we learn early on, and that’s don’t mess with the cops when they got you down, and outnumbered. The beating of Tyre Nichols at the hands of the police preceding his death at the hospital could have been avoided if only he had the sense to not resist them. People fail to understand that on the streets, cops are basically “God.” You can’t fight them. If it takes one, two, five, ten or twenty officers they will eventually put you down and hurt you if they have to in the process of detaining or arresting you. In the Bronx we would fight amongst ourselves but when the cops came it was “Yes, officer. No, officer,” and do our best to look as innocent as possible. People need to understand that cops on the street represent the full power of the state and government. Read more→
