Sedona, AZ –A New Generation of Klezmer and Yiddish Song will be presented by professional klezmer violinist Jake Shulman-Ment and singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Jordan Wax on Saturday, March 28, at 7pm, at The Jewish Community of Sedona and the Verde Valley (JCSVV).
The two musicians are dedicated to preserving and advancing Yiddish music, language and culture. They draw from many combined decades as bearers and innovators of klezmer and Yiddish song, masterfully traversing oceans and centuries to conjure ancestral melodies and songs, landing in a playfully genre-bending 21st century America.
Their live performance, rich with musical virtuosity as well as the oral history that connects their music to centuries of culture, will be a testament to the magic that has sustained Yiddish creativity in the face of incredible odds and continues to shed a unique light on the human condition.
What is Klezmer?
Klezmer is an instrumental musical tradition (essentially Jewish wedding music) from Eastern Europe. Elements of this tradition include dance tunes, ritual melodies and virtuosic improvisations performed for listening. It is a vibrant, emotional folk style that sounds both happy and sad at the same time.
The concert will be at JCSVV, 100 Meadow Lark Drive, Sedona, AZ at 7:00pm, on Saturday, March 28. Tickets are available at jcsvv.org.
