logo_nahealthFlagstaff AZ (May 22, 2020) – Northern Arizona Healthcare Foundation presents Copper Ball Online Auction and Virtual Happy Hour May 27-31 to benefit behavioral health in northern Arizona.

An enticing selection of outdoor adventures, golf packages, culinary experiences, artwork, jewelry, and more are up for bidding.

With health organizations warning that a mental health crisis is looming from the coronavirus pandemic, the auction is an opportunity for individuals to help bolster NAH behavioral health services.

The virus is “an incubator for all sorts of mental health issues,” said NAH psychologist John Martin. “We will need to address those by increasing our access to services and improving our service delivery.”

According to a recent Pew Research Center study, a third of Americans have already experienced high levels of psychological distress during the coronavirus outbreak.

“This virus will leave many personal and societal struggles to navigate,” said Northern Arizona Foundation President and CEO Rick Smith. “We are, and have been, committed to improving behavioral health outcomes, helping those in northern Arizona through this and other health crises.”

Among the auction offerings is a one-of-a-kind private gourmet dinner for eight with wine pairings at the Sedona home of Dr. Beth and Joseph DuPree. Dr. DuPree is an internationally recognized NAH surgeon and advocate for breast cancer patients.

Each day of the auction at 6 p.m., the Foundation will present a Copper Ball happy hour via Zoom or Facebook. Guests include Dr. DuPree, other representatives of Northern Arizona Healthcare, and sponsors of some of the auction’s amazing adventure packages.

    If I Were Curtis Sliwa
    By Tommy Acosta

One of my guilty little pleasures is imagining what I would do if I was in someone else’s shoes, especially politicians. In this essay I would love to jump into the shoes of Curtis Sliwa, a former New York City vigilante who founded the Guardian Angels and is now running as a Republican for mayor of his city.
