… are teeming with new arrivals as the fall migration is well underway. One pond had over 200 widgeons on it as well as mallards and ring necks. After being shot at all the way down here from the north, those that get here are pretty jumpy for a while before they settle into a routine knowing they are safe here. This is the period of time when I can get good in flight shots, as they tend to jump when you walk by them … it won’t be long before they just kinda swim away and toss you an irritated  look over their shoulder. It takes a lot of energy for them to fly so I seldom try to jump them twice. I also shot the same two blue herons who are still hanging out in their favorite fishing spots, but they did not fly and remained hoping for the last fish of the day to carry them through a cool night and into another day.

The critters of the day are settled in for the night … the critters of the night are out hunting their prey … and safe in our homes we rest.

… the earth continues its path around our star, the sun, and our solar system is continuing its circumnavigation of the Milky Way … our very own galaxy and there are an estimated 150 to 200 billion star systems within the Milky Way and it in turn is but one of billions if not trillions of galaxies in the universe.

Our solar system is located about half way from the center of the galaxy to the edge and though our solar system is traveling at more than 500 thousand miles per hour, it takes about 230 million years to circumnavigate the Milky Way. Earth has been around for roughly 4.5 billion years and its climate has been changing for all of those years and it will continue to do so for the next roughly 4.5 billion years at which time it will likely no longer exist. As the sun continues to consume its mass through fission and fusion reactions its gravitational field weakens and it expands and eventually it will expand and consume the earth. Change is perhaps the one constant in all of creation.

In the meantime, enjoy the ever changing environment within which we live … since I started writing this missive we have traveled more than 250 thousand miles and each day we travel through more than 12 million miles of space we will never see again. We are well traveled even if we never leave our home town

Have a beautiful day and smile.

    Cheers

    Ted

is patient where the way is hard, has faith when he does not understand, and carries
into the dark places the light of a cheerful heart.
