Sedona AZ (May 7, 2015) – Sedona United Methodist Church invites the community to a free concert on Sunday, May 10th at 2:00p.m. In honor of all mothers for Mother’s Day, Dr. Lily Chou will perform songs with the focus on the theme of “Love.” Chou will play composers spanning almost 250 years and encompassing the baroque, classical, romantic and contemporary periods. She will tell the story of why each composer wrote that particular work, whether it is his love for his God, his country, his parent or child, his sibling or friend, his teacher, or student or even a pet! Knowing the background stories, is sure to enhance your listening pleasure.
Dr. Lily Chou has been the church’s music director since last September. She is a retired Methodist ordained minister of the N.C. Conference, having served eight Methodist churches. She began piano lessons at age five in Hong Kong and came to the U.S. for her college education. She received a B.A. cum laude from Bob Jones University, majoring in piano and minoring in English; a M.S. from Juilliard School of Music, a D.M.A. from Duke Divinity School. She has performed in five continents and in such prestigious halls as Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow, Carnegie Hall in New York, Chicago Cultural Center, Sanders Theatre of Harvard, and city halls in major cities of the Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, etc.
Chou was once broadcast live on TV for 300,000,000 when she played Beethoven’s Fourth Concerto with the China Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra. She has taught in several universities and colleges in this country, Taiwan and the Philippines. Over forty of her graduates overseas have received their high degrees in the USA.
