Sedona, AZ — So? The mayor has been censured. Now, where do we go from here?

Everybody and their mother know that a censure issued by a council is mostly a formal, public statement of disapproval It’s symbolic—it doesn’t usually remove the mayor from office or strip away their legal powers.

Unless the city’s charter or local laws specifically say otherwise, a censured mayor generally keeps all of their mayoral powers: signing ordinances, presiding over meetings, representing the city, etc.

    Further:

    • There is nowhere in the Sedona charter a section that says “If the mayor is censured, then the council may take away X powers of the mayor.”
    • There is no provision in the code that allows the mayor’s powers to be suspended or revoked via censure alone.
    • There is nothing in the current ordinance or charter text giving the council a removal or power-strip authority over the mayor’s duties

That said, the practical effect is political. A censured mayor might lose influence, credibility, or cooperation from council members, which can make it harder to exercise their powers effectively.

And Mayor Scott Jablow knows that and that is why you would have to pry his seat from his cold dead fingers before he would ever let his dominating role on the council be taken from him.

If he is to lose his title as mayor it can only be done by the will of the people, either by recall or election.

With two election victories behind him, we can be sure he is politically fit and ready to fight.

    Sedona Gift Shop

According to the Red Rock News, council complaints against Jablow included: “Interference with city staff and departments, creating and fostering a hostile work environment, breaking the confidentiality of attorney-client privilege, circumvention of city council process, acting beyond the authority of the office of Mayor, acting unilaterally and finally violating the principles of ethical conduct for elected officials.”

However, no proof of the veracity of the complaints noted above were noted or offered at the council meeting.

Before the September 10 Sedona City Council meeting where Jablow was censured by a 5-2 vote, many believed he would simply resign rather than face the shame of his own council turning on him and the embarrassing accusations against him.

But people forget he’s a New Yorker with alligator thick skin.

The more politically astute community luminaries knew he would never leave his coveted post other than being physically dragged out in chains.

Until the next election, the city will continue to chug along, some believing it’s doing all right while others believing it’s falling to pieces.

    But that’s Sedona.

      End the City of Sedona.

Now you have a. longhouse environment with a bunch of clucking hen overpaid staff. Yavapai county provides excellent services at a lower cost. I fought with the city for years for Sedona to resurface the roads in my subdivision, they implied the city roads are on a 100 year cycle. They do 1 mile a year and they have 100 miles of roads. I’ve owned property in Yavapai county and the roads have been sealed and surfaced twice in 10 years.

Don’t just recall the mayor, end the City of Sedona !!!!!!

Counsel already voted uninanimously to kill the camera deal with Flock and rip out all the cameras. your thick-skinned Scott caved to pressure. Ain’t gonna be no ‘ ‘ rumble ‘ ‘ HOW DID YOU MISS THAT FOUR DAYS AGO?!?!

Tony you live in Cornville, yet you still love to whine, bitch and complain everything Sedona.
We are happy you are gone. We also enjoy your other friends who dont post here or your old hate filled Eye!
I will continue to enjoy a city that is doing things and improving.
And the best part to me is that 75% of all taxes are paid by tourists!
I have no city property tax.
Sure cant say that in unincorporated Yavapai County can you?
Now go back to Fox News and all your other uninformed right wing hate media!

        Be nice WS Dave.
Only they are permitted to use harsh, hateful, divisive language. Truth is considered inflammatory but their hate of Hispanics, gays, blacks, Asians, Muslims is bigly OK. Our divisive POTUS made that clear on his beloved Fox News Parody Hate Show this morning.
Nobody deserves to be physically threatened, physically attacked, abducted or especially killed for their opinions-Nobody!
Like they’ve always said, “if you cannot stand the heat get outta the kitchen!” But if you are going to pretend to be good but openly hate and wish to oppress others because of their race, color, creed or religion-then you live by the sword and are not a Saint! Especially when you call it “WAR”!

As you call me right wing I imagine you consider yourself left wing or is that left wingnut? You seem to miss the fact that everything you buy on Amazon or Ace hardware includes the Sedona sales tax, one of the highest in the nation. Or do you grab a tourist and tell them pay 75% of the tax you are charged? That would be fun to see. Who is this “we” you speak of , one of your multiple personalities? There is therapy for that, along with the hate you see in everyone.

You seem to ignore the bumper to bumper traffic presented by the Sedona Chamber of Commerce and the Sedona a Film Fest, both sponsored by the City of Sedona.

Guess what Dave, Yavapai County has no city property tax !!! Duh, no city, get it? NO city sales tax either, no city, get it?

As a left wing individual, hate is one of your favorite words. Go sit on a rock and meditate, I hear it is good for troubled souls.

Hmmm me thinks Cottonwood, Cornville, Jerome and Prescott (All in Yavapai incorporated) all have bumper to bumper traffic and various festivals (all community fund raisers) that create even more traffic. Traffic is not unique to Sedona or anywhere else.

Eliminate Sedona??? And call it what? That’s a pretty ignorant sentiment toward a city you apparently do not even reside in.

@ Jill Doherty. Your source uses the primary source as LBGTQ nation, I’m sure they are unbiased with no agenda.

I stated Yavapai county resurfaced my roads twice in 10 years. My statement “agenda” is you get better services from the county at lower cost.

That’s a pretty giant leap to being connected with some one with a blog being accused by LBGTQ nation of bomb threats. Is that normal logic on your planet?

I don’t think paved roads have a liberal/conservative agenda. They do however have a left and right sides.

Can we stay with the subject? The subject is roads and taxes, not as you quoted LBGTQnation, you seem to be the one who can not follow along.

I did not “attack” the city, I stated the county provides better services at a lower cost, that is just a statement of fact. It’s only an attack if you choose to divert from the subject, like calling someone a fascist or a nazi, which I did not.

          Civil discourse should be primary.

Jill’s source also prominently lists The Southern Poverty Law Center as a source of information. They are un biased, their Hate Map shows all known Extremist Hate Groups in every state be they White, Black, Religious or whatever.

Think the point she was making is that there are “wingnuts” as you call those on the left on all sides. I’ll let her give you her precise reason for having done so.

I was a straight ticket Republican my entire adult life up until Trump decided to flip flop from being a staunch lifelong Democrat to Republican, only to “obliterate” the Republican Party and replace it with extreme radical MAGA politicians with 100% fealty to he and he alone over country.

The Southern Poverty Law Center is quite biased. Do you own research. Like all groups they favor those that provide them funds.

Bill Gates is a big sponsor of the WHO, The World health Organization, Bill Gates also believes in population reduction. Trust me WHO follows Gates instructions. If however you believe in population reduction, you will make Bill Gates happy if you choose to die.

Honestly why would I want to patronize someone that prints a “Hate Map”?

I’d rather patronize a group that promotes peace, not division.

Yeah they’re biased against extremist of all types. And they’ve done more to combat extremism on all sides than Turning Point or MAGA combined. In fact the MAGA POTUS shut down intelligence gathering agencies who focused on Domestic Terror Groups. He also shut down our intelligence apparatus that monitored Rusher for signs of Offensive Operations. Doesn’t seem to make very good choices now does he?

Bill Gates blah blah blah 💩💩💩. Bill Gates may be a billionaire elitist just like Trump and everyone around Trump. But at least Bill Gates does things with his money to help others rather than taking a Mc Srcrooge bathe in it every night.

On the love map we only cite places or organizations that promote love.

The words hate, fascist and nazi are never allowed.

I don’t listen to podcasts off anyone and never have. I don’t have a Facebook, Twit/X, Tik Tok or any other social media account. I don’t watch extremist propaganda news parodies from Fox, Newsmax, OAN or any other lying, gaslighting propaganda platform such as InfoWars or Turning Point. Nope, I’ve never fallen for lies and propaganda.

Also I never attacked you. I attacked the hypocrisy of the extreme right and MAGA.
Love is not criticism of a City government of a City you don’t even reside in. If you were full of love as you claim you wouldn’t criticize anyone or anything now would you? So far as sticking to subjects, the subject was about the censoring of the Mayor not the abolition of Sedona as a City (which it is, it is not a small town anymore) or how many years the county or city takes to pave someone’s secondary roadway.

Then “Never once said I’ve never seen them. ”

One of those statements is a lie. In writing by you.

Then on another post, you said about my post “Great message Tony I must admit. And no lies or disinformation required.”

You imply I lie. Perhaps you should look in the mirror. Also the fact you choose not to believe my information does not make it disinformation. It makes you a fool.

Not difficult to understand that or is it?
It’s the same thing as saying you don’t believe in Big Foot but are aware of the nonsense being spread about it. Doesn’t mean you believe in or are a follower of Big Foot because you know what crazy people say about it.
Watching 5 mins of the Fake Fox News Parody hardly makes me a follower. Instead it makes me aware and in the know.

The “City of Sedona ” was called Sedona prior to incorporation in 1988.

Me like taxes? Don’t be ridiculous, you know I didn’t vote for Trump and his war upon the middle and lower classes to the benefit of he and his fellow Oligarchs “forever tax exemptions and breaks”.

I think that a sales tax which is not the highest in the country as you claimed which is untrue as usual coming from the right. The City with the highest sales tax is Gould, Arkansas at 11.5%

I’d rather pay sales tax’s vs property taxes which go up annually anytime. Guess you prefer no taxes but you know that’s not logical nor feasible is you want your infrastructure maintained around you.
