Verde Valley AZ (September 27, 2012) – Music lovers can support Yavapai College music students in the coming academic year by joining The Friends of Music–Yavapai College (FOM) during the group’s annual membership drive this fall.
Friends of Music-YC is a volunteer fundraising auxiliary of the Yavapai College Foundation. Members work to assist and support the YC Music Department’s students and programs and help attract top-quality students. They raise funds for student scholarships and endowment funds, promote attendance at concerts, recitals and special events, and support Music Department programs.
The work of FOM and other auxiliaries of the Yavapai College Foundation has become increasingly important since state budget cuts have led to a loss of funds for student scholarships.
Annual membership donation levels for individuals and businesses range from $5 to $500 and include voting privileges in FOM, FOM logo pins, the e-newsletter Music Notes, event alerts, concert passes for business members and at the higher individual levels, and complimentary ads for business members in 12-13 concert programs each year. The group’s official membership year is September 1 through August 31.
“Our ‘Pocket Change Program’ during departmental concerts has raised about $8,500 since FOM’s founding in the Fall of 2009,” said Charles Thomas, FOM President. “Endowment funds for choral and instrumental scholarships have been established with significant contributions to those endowments to date. Our Instrument Maintenance & Acquisition Fund has received some exciting donations. Nearly $18,000 in designated contributions has been donated through FOM since our inception, in direct support of student scholarships and Music Department needs.”
FOM publishes an e-newsletter, Music Notes, which features profiles of FOM scholarship students and includes an inside look at the YC Music Department. Past issues and more information are available online at www.yc.edu/friendsofmusic.
