Cottonwood AZ (December 17, 2014) – Verde Valley Caregivers has collected more gifts for seniors this year than ever before. VVCC placed giving trees at Sedona, Cottonwood, Camp Verde Public Libraries, Oakcreek Country Club, and Wal-Mart. Visitors selected gift tags, purchased the items, and returned them to a box located near each tree.
“This has the best turn out ever with each neighbor receiving multiple gifts,” said VVCC Operations Manager Kim Meller. “Normally neighbors receive socks and slippers, but this year there has been a much wider range of gifts. Bigger and better items such as toasters and crockpots will also be delivered to older adults in need.”
Stockings from the United Methodist Women of the Mountain View Methodist Church will also be delivered. These stockings include a gift and an ornament.
Packages will be delivered today by the Mingus High School National Honor Society and will continue to be delivered by volunteers for the rest of the week. VVCC would like to thank everyone who has purchased gifts, provided stockings, and helped deliver gifts to seniors.
“Some neighbors report these are the only presents they receive at Christmas time. Our gift exchange makes a huge difference,” Meller added. “Thanks again to all of those who are making this season special for neighbors who are often alone during this time of year.”
VVCC is in its 23rd year of service with nearly 2,000 older adults enrolled to receive assistance. Volunteers transport neighbors to medical and other appointments, answer phones in the One-Call Center, install and maintain Guardian Angel Medical Alert Units, assist neighbors the first 30 days after discharge from the hospital (Transitional Care Program), interview new neighbors, provide handy person help, make friendly phone calls, shop with/for neighbors, provide business help, patient scribe, email buddy, friendly visiting, and pet assistance.
