… something a little different tonight/morning. The top image is the original photograph I took as the sun was beginning to make its way behind Mingus Mountain near sunset on a beautiful May end of day. The NE part of Long Canyon. is on a diagonal from lower left and Brins mesa is near the top of the canyon and then the terrain drops off into the uptown area of Sedona. on the far-right above center is uptown and part of west Sedona. Wilson Mountain is just above and beyond Brins Mesa on the left. The image is a great photograph for the wall … below is the same image after I spent some time with different brushes, blending modes and filters converting the photograph to a painterly image also very suitable for the wall … I like them both!

The tool project has turned into a total garage project including the main and golf cart garages plus the former observatory above the golf cart garage. When I got out of astronomy back in the late 90’s I converted it to a studio for working on lapidary projects … since it is accessed via a built-in ladder it was not used much for years before and after my knee replacements … things are pretty much back to normal, and I am back up there. Currently a lot of opal rough is scattered over the floor awaiting sorting and grading. That begins after the garage!

Hoping to make the lake Thursday morning … still finding myself thinking about soaring and I found a great video of a guy flying his sailplane in the French Alps on a flight to the Matterhorn , there is really some great soaring and fabulous scenery in the video … check it out!

If not sooner, sometime in the spring of 2024 I am going back and flying an ASK-21 with a friend in Minnesota at the Minnesota Soaring Club . I was out there the last time I was in Minnesota and looking forward to flying off a grass runway. If you live in Minnesota, the field is south of the cities not far from Northfield … Carlton and St Olaf Colleges.

Have a beautiful day today and share a smile with someone … keep breathing, my favorite exercise!

    Cheers,

    Ted

To you, my boy, the only world I know.
Remember this: whichever course you choose,
You’ll sometimes turn and walk awhile
The other way, for none of human kind
Is all of good or all of evil made.
Let this and honest poverty not turn
Your heart in bitterness and wild despair
To hardened thoughts of Him who made all
    things.
