… continuing with more birds in action. Above is a drake mallard that has just completed the first efforts of entering into flight with an explosive kick with his webbed feet and at the same time a dramatic slap of his wings into the water to propel himself as much as ten feet into the air and many wing beats follow that. Although Mallards are ubiquitous they remain one of the most beautiful ducks and successful survivors … I remember one lone greenhead that passed Corky and I when we were returning from the Grand Canyon, we were at about ten thousand feet and dawdling along at perhaps fifty five knots and this guy passed us about fifty feet off the right wing at the same altitude.
Below is a shot I got of two Western Bluebirds perched on a log in Granite Basin Lake near Prescott and a third one was on very short final as he dove towards a spot on the log. The lake is very small at only five acres but is beautiful!
Into another neat day … especially nice because we are in it and get to choose to have a terrific day … keep breathing, smile and be kind!
Cheers,
Ted
Spare me from bitterness and from the
sharp passions of unguarded moments.
May I not forget that poverty and riches
are of the spirit, Though the world know me not,
may my thoughts and actions be such as
shall keep me friendly with myself.
