London’s West End theatre production makes big-screen premiere in Festival’s Fisher Theatre
Sedona AZ (December 24, 2013) – The Sedona International Film Festival launches its West End Theatre series with the big-screen debut of Stephen Sondheim’s “Merrily We Roll Along”, premiering Jan. 4-5. The production premieres in high definition at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre.
The film festival is thrilled to present the acclaimed revival of Stephen Sondheim’s “Merrily We Roll Along” from London’s West End. Triple Olivier Award-winner Maria Friedman makes her thrilling directorial debut with this vibrant, full-scale production and exceptional cast led by Mark Umbers, Jenna Russell and Damian Humbley.
Set over three decades in the entertainment business “Merrily We Roll Along” charts the relationship between three close friends Franklin, Mary and Charley. Travelling backwards in time, this powerful and moving story features some of Stephen Sondheim’s most beautiful songs including “Good Thing Going,” “Not a Day Goes By” and “Old Friends.”
“Merrily We Roll Along” was captured live at the West End’s Harold Pinter Theatre, which followed a sold-out run at the Menier Chocolate Factory.
“This production of ‘Merrily We Roll Along’ is not only the best I’ve seen, but one of those rare instances where casting, direction and show come together in perfect combination, resulting in the classic ideal of the sum being greater than the parts,” said Stephen Sondheim.
Critics are also raving about the production. All London newspapers and publications have given it 5-star reviews. “It is — make no mistake — one of the greatest musical productions of this or any era!” raves The Independent. The Daily Express calls it “musical theatre at its most sophisticated”, and the Daily Telegraph says it is “hugely witty, tunefully inventive and brightly entertaining.”
Stephen Sondheim’s “Merrily We Roll Along” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 4:00 p.m. and on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 5:00 p.m. Tickets are $15, or $12.50 for Film Festival members. Tickets are available in advance at the Sedona International Film Festival office or by calling 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W.
