Flagstaff AZ (August 20, 2019) – The Flagstaff Area National Monuments are proud to be certified as International Dark Sky Parks. As such, the monuments host at least four star gazing events throughout the year. The next star party will be held on Saturday, August 24th at Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument.
Sunset Crater Star Party Schedule:
- 2:00 – 4:00 PM – Solar scope viewing and kid’s activities in front of the Sunset Crater Visitor Center – get your Junior Astronomer’s booklet!
- 8:00 – 8:30 PM – Lava Flow Trail Amphitheatre – a presentation about our universe by the Astronomers of Verde Valley.
- 9:00 – 9:15 PM – Lava Flow Trail Amphitheatre – constellation tour with a ranger.
- 8:30 – 9:30 PM – Lava Flow Trail parking lot – telescope viewing of stars and planets through multiple sized telescopes.
What to Know before you Go
A portion of the Lava Flow Trail parking lot will be blocked off to allow space for telescopes. Parking may be limited; please carpool if possible. Red light flashlights or headlamps are recommended. There are two vault toilets available at this location but no running water. There is no fee for this event.
