Verde Valley News – Verde resident Marilyn Bealafeld, whose vivid works capture the colorful geometry of Northern Arizona, has been selected as Yavapai College’s Verde Campus/Sedona Center Artist of the Month for September-October 2024.

20240903 olli painting“My paintings are impressionistic in a defined style.” Bealafeld said in a statement. “My style is a simplification of complex subjects. Some are created from my imagination and some from photos that I take while hiking. My choice of colors expresses the effect of light and shadows on the rocks and mountains. My paintings have traditional composition presented in a unique contemporary way. I invite those who view my work to become engaged and intrigued with my interpretation of the subject matter.”

Marilyn’s work will be on display in the lobby of the Yavapai College Sedona Center, 4251 Arts Village Drive, until October 31. The Center is open Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. An opening reception will be held for Marilyn on Wednesday, September 11, from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. The reception is free and open to everyone. Light refreshments will be served.

    If I Were Curtis Sliwa
    By Tommy Acosta

One of my guilty little pleasures is imagining what I would do if I was in someone else’s shoes, especially politicians. In this essay I would love to jump into the shoes of Curtis Sliwa, a former New York City vigilante who founded the Guardian Angels and is now running as a Republican for mayor of his city.
